Join us for a songwriters roundtable, where members critique and provide feedback on each other's songs.

The roundtable will be hosted by singer-songwriter Bruce Harrott at The Central, a Toronto hot spot for musicians, artists and poets in the Bloor / Bathurst area of downtown Toronto, right next to Honest Ed's in the heart of Mirvish Village.

The Central is graciously giving our group the big room upstairs to hold our roundtable.

The roundtable is intended to provide a friendly and constructive environment to allow members to get feedback on their songwriting. All musical genres are welcome, including pop, rock, hip hop, country, folk, instrumental, ethnic, jazz, blues, funk, R&B, experimental, spoken word, and any others.

Members who don't have a song for group critique are still encouraged to attend. The more feedback, the better! This will also be a great opportunity for members to get to know each other.

Members will be randomly selected to present their song, which is then followed by discussion and constructive feedback from the group.  Each song will receive 10 to 12 minutes for presentation and critique.  If any members' songs do not get heard, they will be given priority during the group's next roundtable event.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: Bring one pre-recorded song, or bring a guitar to perform it live for the group.  A laptop, mixer and speaker are provided so you may bring your recording on a portable player (e.g. iPod), a CD, or USB stick. For portable players, anything with a standard headphone jack (1/8") is OK.

A TECHNICAL NOTE: For members bringing a pre-recorded song, please ensure it is a MONO MIX, as there may be only one speaker available in the room.  Please contact the event host if you have a question about this.

SONG PROTECTION: To protect your song, it's recommended you record and copyright it before the session. You can easily do this by sending the song in a sealed envelope to yourself via registered mail. When you receive the envelope, don't open it or the proof of copyright will be negated!

WHEN: Wednesday, August 27, 2014

The Central offers a wide selection of inexpensive food items. There is no cover charge, but, if you can, please support The Central by ordering something to eat and drink.

Once again I can't make it! I really enjoy going and have had something on for the last 4 or so sessions. I'm away in Sept but hope to be back in October. Have a good time.

    Hi everyone,

Has anybody heard of TuneCore or used them. They seem to be relatively successful at marketing your songs. Blurb from an email I received below. Please note I am not advertising or intending to advertise for them - I am only asking about them. Are there similar products/agencies that folks know of?
. Question 2: is there a way to learn how to do home-recording using ProTools or similar software. Such a class would be useful methinks. Hey TuneCore Artist,

    Get an iTunes Pre-Order -
Build Fan Buzz & Sales Before Your Release Goes Live

When you add an iTunes pre-order to your distribution, 2-3 weeks prior to your release date, you can market your release with all these cool features:

iTunes pre-order - Create Fan Buzz> iTunes Buy Link
    > Instant Gratification tracks
    > Special pre-order pricing
    > Pre-order sales that counts towards your iTunes chart position
