What we're about

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization consisting of Greater Seattle area songwriters and musicians who hold events that foster creative development, collaboration, music education, and performance! We range in experience from those just trying their hand at songwriting to seasoned professionals. If you are looking for collaboration, promotion, live performances, increasing your skills, or just meeting other friendly local talent, come see what we have to offer and find out how your skills can benefit your fellow musicians! All lyricists, musicians, and songwriters of all levels and styles are welcome to join.

- If you are new to the group or want to find out more info about us before joining, we recommend you read the FAQ on our website at www.songwritersinseattle.com/about/faq

- If you are looking for a place to post and promote your live performances, please join our affiliate Meetup group "Fans of Live Music in Seattle" at www.meetup.com/fansoflivemusicinseattle

- If you're interested in the recording and producing side of making music, we would encourage you to join our affiliate Meetup group "Seattle/Tacoma Digital Audio Recording & Production" at www.meetup.com/seatacproducers

Our general intro and networking meeting takes place on the third Monday of each month and many other events occur throughout the month. Please see our event calendar (www.meetup.com/songwritersinseattle/events/calendar) for details and a list of the entire month's schedule of events. Themed Songwriting Challenge, Zoom Edition

Online event

!!!IMPORTANT!!! After you sign up for this event, please verify that you're able to see the Zoom link on Meetup. It should contain the text "?pwd=" in it followed by a bunch of random letters and numbers. The meeting has a passcode to avoid Zoom bombing, but this link will enable you to join without having to type a passcode. If you run into trouble joining the meeting, it's also helpful if your Meetup account is set up to allow me to send you a message. Otherwise, I might not be able to get you the passcode if you need it at the last minute. --- The theme for October 2020 is TRANSITION. (As per usual, take it in whatever sense you want. :-D) Themed Songwriting Challenge is a monthly event. We'll announce a theme each month, 4 weeks ahead of time. During the month leading up to the challenge, you'll have a chance to write a song based (perhaps loosely) on that theme. At the actual meetup, we'll go in a circle and perform the songs we've written. If we end up with extra time at the end, we'll go around again and people can share some other song of theirs if they like! ---- ABOUT THE VENUE The August meetup will be online via Zoom. The Zoom link will be on this page once you've got a confirmed RSVP for the meetup. (Normally, this meetup is held at various libraries in the King County Library System, and timing/venue varies depending on library availability.) ---- HERE'S HOW IT WORKS Welcome to Themed Songwriting Challenge! When your turn comes around, please: 1. Introduce yourself and your song (Name, song title, anything else you’d like to add) 2. Tell us what kind of feedback you’re looking for, if any: * No feedback * Encouragement * Critique: music, performance, lyrics, or some combination This is your time and we’re here to give you whatever will be helpful for you. There’s no pressure to ask for any particular kind of feedback, or any feedback at all. 3. Perform your song! (You can perform live or use the speakers and/or laptop to play a recording.) When giving feedback: * Limit your feedback to what the performer asked for * Critique the work, not the artist * Good critique helps make the work the best version of itself that it can be

Original Song Circle-- VIRTUAL!

Online event

Hello songwriters! I will still hold my monthly song circle-- VIRTUAL. It's been very successful and a great way to connect with community during this time of sheltering and living our new normal. Sign up and we shall hold it via a zoom group I will facilitate. Please read the "Virtual Rules" below as there are some minor and important requirements in order for you to participate and for this to be effective. Also, if you are new, please make certain your meetup setting allow to receive private messages as that is how I communicate initially. If you have it turned off, you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RECEIVE MESSAGES AND I WILL REMOVE YOU FROM THE LIST TO ALLOW A WAITLISTED MEMBER TO ATTEND. Looking forward to hearing your beautiful songs. The requirements for your song: A) provide a draft of your song lyric sheet in a google doc one week prior in an email I will send directly to the group (via meetup) attending. This confirms your spot and intention to show up. If I don't receive it (or any communication as to why), then you automatically forfeit your spot and I will open it up to those on the waitlist, giving them time to make plans in order to participate. B) you need to be able to perform it live OR have a recording of it that you can play over zoom. There is a way to share a recorded track through your computer in the program which is much more effective. Tell us what you’d like critiques of and we’ll verbally discuss only what each writer would like to hear about. It's not up to anyone in the group to make value judgements on anyone's work (it's good, it's not good). We're here to consider our songs from where they're at, with respect to the artistic work we're helping to nurture and grow. The event is limited to 8 people. You must stay for the duration of the event as you would if you came in person. After 8 have signed up, a ‘yes’ rsvp goes on a wait list, so please don't RSVP yes to hold a spot if it's only a 50-50 chance you'll make it. NO SHOWS AND LAST MINUTE CANCELS WILL NOT HAVE PRIORITY FOR FUTURE CIRCLES. New people and all genres and levels of music are welcome! Looking forward to sharing and seeing you all. Abby K
