- Songwriters in Seattle Monthly Meetup [Couth Buzzard]
This is the monthly networking and introduction meeting, the perfect place to meet new and experienced songwriters. Come introduce yourself to fellow lyricists and composers and find a rich community of peers and mentors. Everyone is encouraged to introduce themselves and share a song as well as learn more about Songwriters in Seattle and the events that we sponsor. Get to know the talent and personalities of the members of SiS through their music! Please bring an instrument and/or CDs/MP3s/flash drives if you have anything to share - we can also usually get an internet connection if you want to play something off the web. www.buonobuzzard.com See you there! NOTE: The Couth Buzzard closes at 9 PM, so in the interest of giving everybody ample time to share before we need to leave, we will start promptly at 7:00 PM.

- Original Song Circle
Hello songwriters! Looking for a supportive song circle to test out your latest song? Let’s gather at the home of Abby K to take turns sharing one original song, each. The requirements for your song: A) you need to be able to perform it live OR have a recording of it. Bring your own instrument or use my keyboard B) provide lyric sheets so we can follow the song and leave written comments for you to take home. Tell us what you’d like critiques of and we’ll verbally discuss only what each writer would like to hear about. It's not up to anyone in the group to make value judgements on anyone's work (it's good, it's not good). We're here to consider our songs from where they're at, with respect to the artistic work we're helping to nurture and grow. The event is limited to 8 to allow ample time to hear and properly critique everyone’s music. After 8 have signed up, a ‘yes’ rsvp goes on a wait list, so please don't RSVP yes to hold a spot if it's only a 50-50 chance you'll make it. New people and all genres of music are welcome! Bring libations to share. I'll email the address to the list of Yes and Waitlisted attendees a week prior to the event. Mercer Island area. DO NOT USE ADDRESS PINNED ON MAP HERE!
- Songwriters meet and greet (to foster community building)
Let’s build some community by getting together over some brews, wine, coffee and/or snacks. Buy yourself whatever you like at the market’s counter and join us in the public meeting space/ dining area at the “new seasons market” This is not a music event so leave your instruments and sound files at home. This will be a friendly get together to get to know each other and have an opportunity to relax in good company. I (Todd Christoffel) will be your host. I have been with songwriters since its earliest days. We’ll discuss whatever songwriting subjects interest that nights attendees.(We’ll keep away from politics and religion) We’ll meet the first Wednesday of the month. Let’s meet at 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm - plenty of time to get there after traffic cools down at this easy access, easy free parking central and convenient location. It’s about time we did this! Todd

- Themed Songwriting Challenge
The theme for December 2019 is LIGHT. (As per usual, take it in whatever sense you want. :-D) Themed Songwriting Challenge is a monthly event. We'll announce a theme each month, 4 weeks ahead of time. During the month leading up to the challenge, you'll have a chance to write a song based (perhaps loosely) on that theme. At the actual meetup, we'll go in a circle and perform the songs we've written. If we end up with extra time at the end, we'll go around again and people can share some other song of theirs if they like! ---- ABOUT THE VENUE The December meetup will be at the Mercer Island Public Library. The library is wheelchair accessible, and the room we'll be in has a piano available. We'll also have speakers available for you to plug in a phone and play something recorded if you like. Note that venues vary for this meetup depending on library availability, which varies a lot in King County. ---- HERE'S HOW IT WORKS Welcome to Themed Songwriting Challenge! When your turn comes around, please: 1. Introduce yourself and your song (Name, song title, anything else you’d like to add) 2. Tell us what kind of feedback you’re looking for, if any: * No feedback * Encouragement * Critique: music, performance, lyrics, or some combination This is your time and we’re here to give you whatever will be helpful for you. There’s no pressure to ask for any particular kind of feedback, or any feedback at all. 3. Perform your song! (You can perform live or use the speakers and/or laptop to play a recording.) When giving feedback: * Limit your feedback to what the performer asked for * Critique the work, not the artist * Good critique helps make the work the best version of itself that it can be
