I write using keyboards or piano, but I hear my music with a band.
Words and music tend to arrive at the same time. My writing process is very moodling. Some people think I look like I am napping when I write. This is not true.
I need to do my own songs. They are my songs. I need other musician to help flesh out and support my music. Eventually, I will need a recording person (producer?) and potentially a nice, ethical music business person (manager). I have played in a lot of bands and I am a veteran improviser. In terms of collaborating, I love to play around with arranging, improv and instrumentation.
My writing process is very interior - I write alone. I practice my songs enough to be able to perform them solo. Then I bring other musicians in to the structures I have created, into the bones of the songs. There is room to tinker and add to and explore the music after the initial writing phase. I like playing with other musicians. I am going to need people who have additional skill sets - like recording, producing, and artist management.
I think recording, marketing, and gigs are all part of this next phase for my music.
Hi! I write and sing my own music, and I play piano/keyboards. I write pretty faithfully, and I have started to rehearse regularly with other musicians - I am forming a band. I play open mics regularly. Goal for the year: begin to record my songs.
