It's hard to match Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, and Irving Berlin's artistry in this romantic, comedy, musical, which was the most successful picture of their partnership (achieving second place in worldwide box-office receipts for 1935).
The plot is typical Hollywood—boy meets girl, boy annoys girl, boy falls in love with girl, boy still annoys girl, boy pursues girl, and finally, yes, finally, girl falls in love with boy. The plot isn't deep, but that's because the film is all about their fancy footwork and the music. It's easy to be in awe of the dance sequences as Astaire and Rogers make their moves look effortless, all while not running out of air. And, after viewing the movie, even if you're not a hoofer, you'll be hard pressed to keep yourself from getting up and dancing, all while singing "Heaven, I'm in heaven..."
