Road bike tour of Santa Rosa-Windsor plain. 30+mi, moderate

This is a relaxing ride that follows some wonderful, quiet backroads through vinyards, meadows, oak woodlands and pasture land. The terrain is gentle rolling hills, a couple of bigger hills, and sometimes just plain flat. It a relatively easy ride. You just need to be comfortable with the distance.

Our route starts on the Santa Rosa Creek trail, taking us west out to Willowside, and onto Guerneville road for about .5 miles before turning north onto Olivet. We leave Olivet for a beautiful little back road that takes us all the way to River Road. After a short ride on River Rd we'll exit onto the Trenton Healdsburg road and wind our way through some gorgeous countryside up to Windsor, where we'll stop at a local park (with restrooms). Our return route will include Eastside Rd to Laguna, a bit of Guerneville Rd, then back onto the Santa Rosa Creek path to our starting point.

This ride should take about 3+ hours, including a rest stop. Restrooms at the starting point and at the half-way point.

To get to the starting place: from 101 take Hwy 12 exit and head west toward Sebastopol. Take the Stonypoint Rd exit off hwy 12. Turn RIGHT at the light and onto Stonypoint Rd. Turn LEFT at the next light onto West 3rd. A little shopping center will be on your left. Pull into the shopping center and park. We will meet in front of the CVS.

Thank you so much, Ted, for a beautiful, well planned ride -- and for your patience with this newbie rider. I am motivated to train so I can go on the next one you organize. Really appreciate it! Carol

Hi Ted, Your response to Carol is what we have done with these group rides in the past. We just need to be really clear about the meet up points so no one gets lost.

I am concerned about the 13-14 mph speed. I know I can go 30 miles, but don't know about that speed. Ted, if we have doubts, should we pass on this trip? I would certainly understand.

Hey Carol, the group will determine the speed. There will be riders who go a little faster and those that like to go a little slower. We will, as with hikes, re-group at junctions. I'm only estimating a target speed. We'll go at what ever speed is comfortable for the group overall.
