Come join our book club. We are a very simple book club as we just walk and talk! We will break into small groups to give us all a chance to hear and give input. We all read the book before the hike and then hike as we discuss it. We will walk up to the Lake Ilsanjo by way of Canyon Trail where we will stop by the lake for a little way and come back down on Spring Creek trail. This trail does have altitude gain of about 500 ft and some rocky parts on the trail that will require you to watch your footing. The mileage will be around 4-5 miles but it's a nice hike.
Our book: The Accidental Cowgirl Six Cows, No Horse and No Clue by Mary Lynn Archibald..... a memoir
On August 28, 2008 Mary Lynn Archibald's life has changed twice dramatically due to a newspaper. First, she met her husband Carl through an ad in the paper. Her memoir Accidental Cowgirl: Six Cows, No Horse, and No Clue was written about the second change. While traveling, a small ad for acreage caught Carl's eye. An hour later, the couple fell in love with Twin Creeks Ranch.
Carl and Mary Lynn soon discovered their perfect weekend getaway also belonged to several cows and two old barn cats. The previous owners also wanted to give them the dog but Carl was against that. Soon, the couple's weekend retreat turned into a full time job. However, both Carl and Mary Lynn still had obligations four hours away.
Carl and Mary Lynn threw themselves into fixing up the place. They started remodeling, planting vegetables and herbs, caring for the animals, and keeping the water supply going. They soon learned that the simple life is not quite simple. Gone were the dreams for long walks and days spent reading by the lake.
What a great little gem of a book. (http://smile.amazon.com/review/R2SH0AXYGAZSSI/ref=cm_cr_quotes_dprb_0?ie=UTF8&ASIN=0978705408&nodeID=283155&store=books)
Mary Lynn Archibald's memoir Accidental Cowgirl: Six Cows, No Horse, and No Clue is a quick read about the not so simple life. It is a mix of letters, diary entries, short stories, and pictures. It is a hilarious look at a couple's dream and the reality that came along with it..
