Moderate hike appx 8  miles

This is a delightful hike along Lake Sonoma and a longer variation on our usual Half-a-Canoe trail favorite.  We get all of the beauty of Half-a-Canoe but even more as we extend the walk to include more trail along the lake.  It is a workout because it is a roller coaster type trail and the significant part of the altitude gain (1200 ft) is at the end of the trail.  This will be a great scenic hike.

Directions:

From Healdsburg head 10.3 miles northwest on Dry Creek Road to the base of Warm Srpings Dam and Lake Sonoma Visitor Center on the right.  (Dry Creek Road becomes Skaggs Springs Road in the park.)  From the visitor center, continue 3.6 miles, crossing over the bridge over Lake Sonoma, to the posted No Name Flat parking area on the left. There is noticeable sign marking the parking lot!. A map of the trails at Lake Sonoma can be found at:

http://www.spn.usace.army.mil/lake_sonoma/docs/Lake%20Sonoma%20Trail%20Map.pdf

As always:

We combine enjoyment of the trail with respect for everyone’s time.   A steady pace and we just keep going!

Please always check your email the night before just in case there are any necessary adjustments.  This is especially important if there are any weather issues.  Cancellations due to weather will be posted by 10pm the previous evening.

Give yourself time to find the trail head so that you arrive prior to the scheduled time.  That is the time we head out on the trail.  It would be disappointing to miss having you on the hike due to late arrival.

Wear comfortable hiking shoes with good rugged soles that are well broken in.

Duration: 4 hours

Facilities: along trail

Dogs?: Yes

Bring plenty of water.  More than one bottle is usually a good idea.

Dress in layers.  The hike starts off cool but rapidly warms up.

Bring a snack.  We'll stop for a break around the 5 mile mark.

If you have completed your 10th

Bring your smile and great attitude!  Once again....this is not about finishing the hike in record time...it's about enjoying ourselves and the outdoors!  If you are a fast hiker you will be waiting for those of us that huff and puff our way up the trail.  If you are a slow hiker you will find that we head off up the trail as soon as you catch up with the group. Please make sure this is something that you will enjoy!  We are ALL about trail enjoyment while respecting everyone’s time!

See you on the trail!

I can't believe that Belle learned how to swim today! It was a great day and the dogs were the frosting on the cake. A small and spectacular group!

A great workout with lots of added fun thanks to our four-legged "busy hikers". Thanks again, Leigh

Be aware...they just implemented a $3 parking charge...there is a sign as you reach the dam. This is my first time having to pay. We'll all have to figure it out! You might want to allow a few extra minutes and exact change might be handy...I'm bring Belle...I hope you all bring your dogs!

So I broke a couple of toes yesterday. I'll see how it goes, but might have to wait a couple weeks.

My sore back is still a problem and feel I need to rest it more so I'm cancelling, although I wish I had the same reason as Carole........"resting after trip to New Orleans!"
