Buick Meadow Workout..(no stop) . 9.5 miles 1200 feet altitude gain (Moderate)

  • Jun 11, 2014 · 8:45 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

This is a lovely loop, providing some of the best Annadel has to offer: oak woodlands, grassy meadows, bay trees, redwoods, and the lake. This also takes us out to one of the less traveled areas of the park.  This is a workout hike which means that we will NOT be doing a lunch stop.  Please come with snacks in your pocket and plenty of water!

Parktrail Dr. (trail head) to Canyon Trail: The trail's elevation increases steadily after the wooden bridge and intersection of Spring Creek Trail. At the top is a great view of Santa Rosa, the coastal mountain range, Mt. Saint Helena and the geysers in Napa County. After about 1.5 miles, we will branch off to the right on Marsh Trail. Marsh Trail: This trail climbs steadily from its beginning skirting the northern flank of Bennett Mountain. Higher elevations provide views of Lake Ilsanjo and the Mayacamas Mountain Range. The trail runs through prime oak woodlands, grasslands and cool islands of coastal redwoods. After about 2.2 miles, we arrive at Buick Meadow and branch off to the left on South Burma Trail. For about 0.5 mile we go up higher to our maximum elevation of 1427ft and then steadily descend for about 2 miles in the shady forests of Bay trees. At the end of South Burma Trail we then take a left at Lake Trail. We hike along the north side of Lake Ilsanjo and stop at "meditation point." At the lake's dam we descend down Spring Creek Trail. This final trail of the hike is completely shaded by alders, redwoods and arching bay trees that grow along the creek canyon, making this one of the most pleasant trails in the park on a hot day.

We'll take our lunch break well past the half way point at Meditation Point; make sure you plan accordingly.

Driving Directions to Trailhead: -

From Highway 12 East Bound from 101

At the stoplight continue straight onto Hoen Ave.

Take a right at the light onto Summerfield Ave.

Take a left on Parktrail drive (2nd street on left).

Park about a 1/3 of a mile up the road; the trailhead is on the left.

Please read and be familiar with the guidelines of the group as listed below.  It’s important before you come on a Wanderer hike that you agree and are prepared with the following.

As always:

We combine enjoyment of the trail with respect for everyone’s time.   A steady pace and we just keep going!  If you are in the lead you will end up waiting at trail junctions.  If you are in the back you will be asked to do your best to keep up with the group and at waiting points the group may move on as soon as you are within sight.  Our pace averages 2.5mph.  We do get separated from time to time as everyone walks their own pace but please bear in mind that you will need to be able to stay within a reasonable distance from the group.  Make sure this is something you are prepared for and would enjoy.

TO BRING: YOU! glorious hiker person you – dying to hit the trails and laugh, talk, sweat and enjoy in a group of like minded Wanderers… Oh yeah, and you should always bring your hiking safety essentials as well as layered clothing, water and food appropriate to the outing as mentioned below.

Please always check your email the night before just in case there are any necessary adjustments to the hike details.  Cancellations or any adjustments will be posted by 10pm the previous evening.

RSVP etiquette must be followed. Only RSVP when you can commit to attend. Once you have RSVP'd if you have an emergency that means you have to cancel please change your RSVP by 5pm the prior day. This will avoid a "no-show" reflecting on your participation history. Over 3 "no-shows" might mean we have to excuse you from the group. We try very hard to respect each other in this group.

Give yourself time to find the trail head so that you arrive prior to the scheduled time. That is the time we head out on the trail.  It would be disappointing to miss having you on the hike due to late arrival.  You will be left behind if you are not ready to head out at the hike start time.

Wear comfortable hiking shoes with good rugged soles that are well broken in.

Duration: 3.5-4 hours

Facilities: at the trail head

Dogs: No

Bring plenty of water.  More than one bottle is usually a good idea.

Dress in layers.  The hike starts off cool but rapidly warms up.

No lunch stop this time.

Bring your smile and great attitude!  We are ALL about trail enjoyment while respecting everyone’s time!

See you on the trail!

Well, that was a terrific beginning to what turned out to be a very long day! Happy birthday, Leigh, and thank you for all the joy you bring to all of our lives...whether or not we are on the trail with YOU...being on the trail with the Wanderers is absolutely the best! (And notice how a 9.5 mile hike is now, just "good exercise!")
