We will be having a meeting in January at Windsor Round Table to go over further details and collect a $600 deposit.
This trip has been divided into two groups. We will leave all together and return together. The first group, led by me will head out on September 1st. The second group will be led by Julie Wilton and possibly Kathy Fanning if she joins us.
All of us will arrive on August 30th. Group two will have an extra day at the beginning with an excursion. Group One will have an extra day at the end with a planned excursion. We will have 7 hiking days and 4-5 biking days. The trips are separate and you can participate in both or just one.
Day 1:Transfer from Dubrovnik airport to the green hillsides and verdant valleys of Konavle, located southeast of the medieval walled city. Konavle is well-known for its rural countryside charm as well as its fantastic cliff-top views, sprawling vineyards and traditional old fashioned villages. Your first overnight stay will be in the small town of Gruda set within the heart of the Konavle countryside.
Day 2:Today's maximum walking distance: 10kms. Explore the beautiful Konavle area on foot as you discover the scenic paths that lead over hillsides from one picture postcard village to the next. This is your chance to cross the valley and head into the forests and vineyards to where the Ljuta River fuels several traditional water mills. Overnight stay in Gruda.
Day 3:Transfer to Croatia's iconic coastal citadel Dubrovnik where red roofs and medieval monuments make for a historic backdrop to today's two hour guided orientation and sightseeing tour. In the afternoon you'll be able to choose between free time in Dubrovnik or an optional half day visit to Lokrum Island and its impressive botanical garden and Benedictine monastery. Overnight stay in B&B accommodation in Dubrovnik.
Day 4:Today's maximum walking distance: 17kms. Set sail by local ferry from Dubrovnik port to Sipan Island, the largest island in the Elaphiti archipelago. Sipan is an ideal location for self-guided walking with the fishing communities of Luka Sipanska and Sudjuradj making great start and finish points. Starting at Sudjuradj you'll walk inland and across the island where olive groves, vineyards and ancient churches align the route and pine forests, secluded bays and fishermen's taverns provide welcome shade and refreshment during the heat of the day. After exploring Sipan until your heart's content it's time to return to Dubrovnik via the local ferry boat from the port at Sudjuradj. Overnight stay in B&B accommodation in Dubrovnik.
Day 5:Mljet Island national park is where you'll be heading to today as you take the two hour ferry journey from the port of Gruz. The self-guided walking route starts at the village of Polace, famed for its Roman ruins, and leads past saline lakes, traditional villages and whispering pine forests before returning to Polace for your overnight stay on Mljet.
Day 6:Your second day on Mljet lets you make the most of the island's verdant green landscapes as well as offering a chance to dip your toe into the saline lakes which are always a little warmer than the crystal clear waters of the surrounding Adriatic. Alternative excursions to recommended walking routes include a small boat ride to the nearby island of Saint Mary where a 12th century Benedictine monastery makes for a focal point before returning back to Mljet for your final night's stay on the island.
Day 7:Your penultimate day finds you returning to the UNESCO city of Dubrovnik where you're free to walk the walls, undertake cultural sightseeing or just indulge in people watching at leisure. overnight stay in Dubrovnik.
