Wanderers Winter Ramble at Armstrong Woods with after hike Pot-Luck! (Moderate)

  • 11h ago · 10:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

As always...first we MUST hike...so first about the hike! This hike is about 6 miles with an elevation gain of 1600ft. We've done most of this many times at Armstrong Woods. Both as an evening and a day hike doing a variation of this on East Ridge and Pool Ridge trails. . We have an amazing final mile through the old growth redwoods. As you can tell, this hike has a few relentless hills that keep going on up but it is well worth the huffs and the puffs to get up there. You will travel through MAGNIFICENT red woods forest and drop dead forest scenery. If you haven't done this hike...this one is a must do. You will find yourself doing this hike time and time again, especially if you stick with The Wanderers! I promise you, you won't be disappointed! To enjoy this hike you should be able to comfortably walk uphill at a steady pace for an extended period and maneuver some steep grades down.  We will not be stopping for lunch so we can save ourselves for a pot-luck lunch. We should finish the hike by 12:30.

NOW!!! About the after hike Pot-Luck!! We are going to have it at Andy and Gwen's house in Forestville. You will need to bring a food AND beverage item...(please focus on entree type items as we are usually appetizer and dessert heavy. ) We will have grills available to cook your favorite BBQ dishes. Please post what you will be bringing in the comments section.  We will be giving directions to Andy and Gwen's home after the hike.  It's only about 10 minutes from Armstrong

To get to the trail head:

From downtown Guerneville on Main St. (Highway 116), drive 2.3 miles north on Armstrong Woods Road to the parking lot on the right, just before the Park Entrance.

As always:

Wear comfortable hiking shoes

Bring water and apply sunscreen

Wear layers. This hike will start off cool and can be wet!

This hike doesn't include a lunch stop due to the pot-luck.  We will stop for a 5 min break on the top so bring a snack if you want.

Have fun!

Car pool locations:

WINDSOR/SANTA ROSA-  Meet at River Road park and ride, on river road just west of the 101 (next to pg&e sub station).  Suggested leave by 9:30

PETALUMA-Lucky at the intersection of Lakeville and Caulfield Ln. Park closest to Payran St. suggested leave by 9

Someone left some turquoise trail shoes at the house? Please reply to recover them.

Sorry to hear that we missed some people. This shows the importance of waiting at trail junctions until the whole group arrives. Everyone who stayed with the group was able to get directions and attend the post hike event. Sorry for those who chose to go their own way.

I lost my carpoolee, so I'll stop at the Petaluma car pool location if anyone wants a ride. I'll be driving a grey Toyota Prius (6EAL637). I'll leave the Lucky parking lot at 8:50am SHARP, so please arrive and be ready prior by Payran St.

I'm finding myself overloaded with persimmons so I think I'm going to bring persimmon bread instead. It will be gluten-free if that matters to anyone.

Wow! I feel really stupid, I was thinking this hike was last Saturday!! We don't schedule searches this far ahead. :P

    1 · 6 days ago

    • John H.

You know M I had wondered if your searchers had developed some sort of esp and could know in advance if someone was going to get lost. And being a smart alec- had to wonder if maybe you could call ahead and tell that person to stay home:) Hey that way we get to enjoy your company. Just saying.
