Wine study time....

We live in an amazing wine region and certainly have our share of riches. So in these study groups, the idea is to dig deep and examine specific varietals to better understand things like terroir, micro climates, residual sugar and so much more.

So I am putting the invite out to a small group (limit 12) to bring a bottle of wine from a Sonoma County Winery. This month we will look at zinfindels. As long it comes from Sonoma County, bring your favorite.

There is no cost to come to this study group, but there is a lil bit of effort required. First you must pick a good wine. (does not have to be expensive) Must have a rating of 88 or above from a well known rating entity. WS, WE, WA, etc. or have won a gold from somewhere. Yes, I must apply this rule as we have had some less than great wines show up here. BOO!

Next, bring a one page sheet of notes on the wine, the region or both. Hint... go to the winery website and take some notes about the wine, blend, growing region, soil, etc. Yes, this is about education so this is also A MUST. This is a "Study Group" No expertise needed only a willingness to share some info, learn a little, partake in conversation, eat great food, and imbibe amazing wine. No worries if you are shy, hand me the notes and I will read them to the group for you.

The last part, bring an appetizer for 12 that goes with this wine and region. I know it is a lil effort that has to be put in here, but every one of the study groups has always been completely full. Why? Because you get to learn a little something, eat great food, enjoy wonderful conversation, and of course Drink Great Wine.

See you on Saturday!

Because this is a small gathering, please RSVP yes only if you are really sure you can make it.  If something unplanned does come up, please un-RSVP ASAP to allow someone from the waitlist to attend.  Don't worry if you don't make this event, we will be having others like it on a regular basis.

Here comes my admonition please don't bring cheap or crappy wine. Please do the right thing in your selection. There are hundreds of great wines in Sonoma.

A really fun and educational event! The chance to compare wine from the same winery, from different blocks, or vineyards or years was very interesting. Fun people, great food and everyone brought their experience to the table and was wiling to share. Thank you for a wonderful evening!!

Whoops hit the wrong button. Ultimately the goal is this. Imagine going to the store and not knowing which bottle of wine to buy. Now imagine that you sat with 12 others that didn't know which one to buy. Then you all shared a different bottle at one sitting. Thus you get a little bit of all 12 different bottles. Hopefully you'll learn a little bit of information about each one. Hopefully seeing some trends of what makes one more tasty than another and therefore belp

therefore help guide you to better purchasing decisions in the future. Oh. And a good time. Expect a reasonably good time. This is informal. There is no test and we usually end up laughing a aweful lot.
