This will certainly be a wilderness experience of a life time and this should be on everyone’s bucket list ;-) -This will be fully catered for all meals, exclusive desert rafting, no passports required and view of the Richie Falls. Starting near Pofadder in the Northern Cape, this section of the river is arguably the best on the Orange River and offers a variety of conditions, from flat water with flowing channels, lots of exciting small rapids and a few ‘Big Ones’ to get the adrenaline flowing. The scenery is awesome with highlights being the Orange Gorge and being able to see the Richie Falls – the second highest waterfall on the river, after Augrabies. This area has been designated as pristine wilderness and of extreme biodiversity. If there enough numbers and booked in time, this will then be a private, which will give up for options to dictate the flow of the trip. Its best to book in advance to ensure your spot.

"VERY IMPORTANT" -- Please email first or call me directly (Do not just mark yourself as going on Facebook / Meetup) to check for availability and to book on - [masked] or for more info, contact Iain Macdonald on Tel:[masked] or[masked] - When making a booking, please can you send me your cell number, email address, name & surname and number of people going. You can also send me a message on "whatsapp

This event is booked in advance to ensure availability, due to its popularity, as there is only two 4 x long weekend that work for this. The other weekend falls in the school holidays and is already booked up.

I have had many requests over the years about this trip and after to doing quite a few river rafting trips, Gravity Adventures, they would be my preferred choice. This is also one of the best times of the year to do it, when it is not too hot and will be great for swimming. This will be a private group and all transport cost will be shared in getting to minimise the costs. We cover just over 35kms during the trip so there is ample time to relax, read your book or explore the camp surroundings.

Cost: R6, 250, 00 per person or a 50% deposit to secure your booking with the balance to be paid on the 1st of December 2017. (The balance can also be paid off in stages so you don’t miss out during the course of the year. This will be a self- catering option, with shared communal dinner. You will cater for your own breakfast and Lunch. This cost also includes the extra Porter Boater for the trip to carry our tents and extra gear. If you don’t have a tent, however I know who is going we can team up and share if required. There is an extra option, to hire tented accommodation (walk in canvas dome tent, stretcher, sheet & pillow): R220.00 per person. So besides that all other costs are cover, you just need to bring along your soft drinks along. There will be a Cooler box in each of the two person river Kayaks.

Included in the payment will be the following. All inclusive – 2 nights in base camp and ALL meals (14 meals in total) – no hidden extras – the best in bush cuisine – all fresh prepared on river Undiscovered sections of river – no crowds No border crossings or passports. They also cater for Vegetarians or if the food needs to halaal. Note: Your trip price includes TWO nights in base camp and ALL meals, unlike most other river operators. The cost also includes

All meals, camping fees, river rafting equipment, safety briefing, qualified and experienced guides. I have also included the cost of Porter Boater: for trip. The porter boater will help carry extra gear, help to set up and break down camp and help to pack and unpack your boats. This is a participative trip so it is important to note that the guide will HELP you, not do everything for you.. Suitable for Most Levels of Fitness, but some minimum fitness is required.

This will be a 5 day / 4 night away trip, starting on the departing on Thursday the 26th of April and ending on Tuesday the 1st of May 2018

Our base camp where we are meeting staying at is located just at Onseepkans, Northen Cape. Distance from 700km from Cape Town. Difficulty: Class 2 – 4 Suitable for all skill levels and children above 8 years. Wherever possible we will share the Transport in getting there

Gravity’s base camp, Red Rock River Camp, is set on the banks of the river and your guides will meet you here on the evening before your trip begins. There is ample grass to set up your camping spot for the night and this is also where you will leave your vehicle whilst you are on the river with us. There are basic ablutions, including flush loos, a bar service and easy access to the water for a refreshing dip or trying your hand at catching (and releasing) some Yellow fish. Your trip price includes TWO nights in base camp and ALL meals, unlike most other river operators.

We cover just over 35kms during the trip so there is ample time to relax, read your book or explore the camp surroundings. Each trip is run as a self-contained wilderness expedition - we carry everything we need and take everything back out again at the end. We make our way down river, choosing a different campsite each night. All you need to provide is your personal gear and drinks of your choice. All meals are included, as are qualified guides, boating and safety equipment. On the evening before your trip begins, you will be welcomed to the Gravity base camp by your guides. Relax and enjoy the view over the river or have a drink at the bar. You'll enjoy a light supper under the starry night sky around the campfire. Next morning, after a hearty breakfast, your guides will give you advice on how best to pack your dry bags for your trip down river. Before getting on the water you'll also have a thorough safety briefing and some paddling instruction.

Then, it's time to get going for three or four days of relaxation and excitement! The first day’s paddling consists mainly of flowing channels and flat water ending with Scorpion. Day 2 brings bigger rapids and an evening walk to view the amazing Ritchie Falls. Day 3 is full of excitement with a challenging portage around the Falls, lowering the boats in above ‘42 man hole’, ‘Big Bunny’ and ‘Dolly Parton’ rapids. As you leave the gorge on day 4, things mellow out once again and the last section is just gentle paddle with mountains increasing in size around you. The group will be met at the take-out after lunch and transported back to base camp to enjoy a final meal around the campfire.

5 x nights – 4 x Days on the River – All meals (14 meals included)

Bring along your old fold up chair if you have. Sleep under the stairs or bring your own tent.

Do I need my passport? No, you don’t. The trip starts and ends on the South African side so no border crossing is required.

What do I need to bring?

A full kit list will be supplied on confirmation of booking. Remember that whatever you choose to bring will get very dirty so don’t bring your new clothes!

Is it difficult to steer the boats? Will I fall out?

We use 2 person inflatable ‘crocs’ that are very stable and easy to paddle, even for beginners. This

section of river has lots of fun rapids and a few challenging runs. You will be equipped with a PFD (‘lifejacket’) and will have been given instruction on exactly how to behave if you fall out of your boat. We also use only highly trained guides who will be on hand to rescue you if required.

Will my clothes & sleeping bags get wet?

There are no guarantees on a river trip but it’s extremely unlikely - you will be supplied with a dry-bag, which will keep your clothes dry even if the bag lands in the water. You can also pack your clothes into black bags inside the dry bags to make sure. Your guides will explain to you the best way to pack your bags. Space is sufficient but limited so don’t bring too much with you.

Do I need to be fit? What if I’m not a strong swimmer?

Although this is an exciting trip, the distance covered over the four days is not very long (about 37kms) so you don’t have to be an athlete to do the trip. A reasonable level of fitness and good health is required, though. Temperatures can be extreme, especially in summer so please bear this in mind. There is no age limit but you should familiarise yourself with what the trip entails and make an informed decision on your ability to participate, based on your own fitness. Each client is issued with a PFD (’Lifejacket’) and is instructed on how to handle him or herself in the water, you don’t need to be a strong swimmer but please let us know if you are not confident in the water. There is always the option to walk around rapids you are not happy to do. You also have the option of requesting a very stable

What about my drinks?

Gravity provides all meals but you can bring your own choice of drinks. We will supply you with cooler boxes but if you intend bringing a large amount of canned drinks, it is worth it to bring your own cooler box as well. It’s also a good idea to bring drink mix such as Game, which can be mixed with water – purified water will be supplied at each stop.

Is the water safe to drink?

Generally, the water is clean enough to drink but we use water purification tablets to be on the safe side.

What will the meals be like?

We pride ourselves on providing our clients with the best in bush cuisine. All meals are prepared fresh on the river and consist of hearty, healthy main courses, followed by desert. Sundowner snacks are also served. I have specific dietary requirements, can you cater to them? We are very happy to cater for vegetarians and those requiring halaal meats. For other dietary requirements and preferences, we will supply you with our menu so that you can bring along additional items of substitutions. You can chat with your Trip Leader and discuss how you’d like him/her to prepare your food if necessary. If your food requirements are complicated,

10 Reasons to join this awesome experience

You will experience true wilderness – Unlike most other operators, our trips are run on one of the last true wilderness areas of the Orange River. No roads, no people, just you and nature. This may seem intimidating but we can promise, it will be a life enriching experience!

Once you arrive at base camp, there are very few additional costs – all meals and sundowner snacks are included from when you arrive to when you leave; camping fees, logistics, guides, equipment…all included. And, since there are no distractions whilst you’re on the river, there’s no pressure to indulge in extras that you don’t need. You may want to indulge in a drink from the base camp bar or leave a tip for your guides but that’s about it!

FUN! There are a number one reason for going on holiday. A rafting trip has something for everyone: endless swimming, tanning and socializing, rapids and rock jumps (all optional), no cooking for 5 straight days! Fishing, stargazing, birding, hiking, paddling and surfing in the rapids, lots of time to catch up on reading…the list goes on.

Family time is part of the package – When last did you spend some real time with your family with none of the distractions of modern life? Work, school and technology make it difficult but a multi-day rafting trip gives you all the time and space to reconnect.

You will feel less stressed – Journeying along an ancient river, through an untouched desert landscape is a complete escape from reality. The quietness of nature lets you relax and leave all your worries behind you, especially when the river is slow-moving. In this moment, you can bask in the feeling of peace. And then, when the current picks up again, you can work off even more stress with some good old-fashioned paddling! And the effect is long term – a rafting trip fosters reflection, allowing us to remember and relive the feeling we had on the trip long after it’s over.

It’s great exercise! While it’s not necessary to be an athlete to enjoy our trips, you can be guaranteed that you will use muscles you never knew you had! Paddling is an excellent upper body and core workout and, for those who are keen, adding hiking, swimming and beach games to the mix means that you will be using your body all day long – something we don’t get to do very often.

You will have a real sense of accomplishment – OK, so you may not have summited Kili, but 4 days of wilderness camping and paddling yourself down the river is still worth celebrating. And, if you conquer Big Bunny rapid, you’ll have boasting rights forever.

You will feel better about yourself – Completing a multi-day wilderness rafting trip leaves you with a feeling of accomplishment and an increased sense of confidence. Depending on the difficulty of the river, the task may seem challenging, but once you complete it, the feeling of achievement is intoxicating. You will feel the change in yourself, giving you the confidence to overcome many other challenges.

It’s addictive! – Get out of the day-to-day routine and step away from your comfort zone. Adventure is good for the mind for a multitude of reasons, many of which have far reaching effects, even after we return home – it sparks our urge to explore, it increases our tolerance for uncertainty, it develops our independence and it actually makes our brains bigger! Whitewater rafting guarantees a release of adrenaline. And immersing yourself in a spectacular natural environment feeds the soul – you’ll want more!

Life is a Journey, Enjoy the ride – The trip down the river is just the surface journey. Even if you’re not into psycho-babble, we know that you will experience a gradual process as you journey down the river. You will start to find yourself again and you’ll start to think about where you are in life and where you want to be.

Bonus reason! – No passports! no need to cross the border with Gravity Adventures – Everything is run on the South African side of the Border.

@ -- For the Soulful Retreat on the 26th April 2018 – 1st of May 2018, this will be suitable for most levels of fitness

How do I get up to the river? You can drive up in your own vehicle or we can recommend a vehicle rental company or coach with driver. The road is a good tar road all the way up from Cape Town and takes around 9 hours, with breaks. The road is also good tar coming in from the Gauteng direction. The last section of +/- 50 kms to the camp is usually a good dirt road.
