WALK DESCRIPTION ON OFFER

For this walk we will be doing the Hout Bay Suikerbossie Contour Waterfall Walk with is stunning view on offer over Hout Bay and after the rains last week and more rain forecasted this week, the waterfalls should be flowing. The trail starts at the entrance to the Suikerbosie Restaurant in Hout Bay and heads up towards Orange Kloof & Constantia Nek in direction. On route we will walk through an indigenous forest to the waterfall at Myburgh's Kloof. This is another one of those awesome waterfalls that flows only in winter and also one of my favourites. From here we will head on towards Myburgh’s Corner and Myburgh’s Waterfall Ravine for our lunch break in this tranquil indigenous forest. This walk will offer some spectacular views over Hout Bay, Little Lions Head and Llandudno.

[Time permitting we will stop for tea/ coffee in Hout Bay after the walk. The estimated time of walk end will be at 4pm - It also great to bring a black bag to sit on for our breaks to keep your pants dry ;-)

FULL MEETING POINT DESCRIPTION @ END OF INVITE OF EVENT

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, PLEASE ENSURE THIS IS READ BELOW

@@@ This is a reminder and very important when joining any of the hikes on offer, don’t forget your water, this should be at least 2 litres and @ least 3 litres if it is a hot day. A Rain Coat should be brought along on all hikes no matter the weather conditions, as this also acts as a windbreaker. Weather conditions can change without warning. It often happens that the area you driving from, the weather is quite different to where we are hiking on the day. What to wear on the hike. Comfortable hiking clothes (trousers / shorts). In winter long pants are preferable due to the change of temperatures. Jersey or fleecy top. As the weather often heats up during the day, it is good to wear clothes that you can layer on or off. Pack extra, thinner tops as gusty wind can cause the temperature to change quite dramatically. In summer a peak cap for the sun, in a winter beanie or buff and gloves just in case. Remember a warm hiker is a happy hiker ;-) --- being cold or wet on route affects you and the group adversely.

DURATION OF WALK - Start time at 9.30am - [7.25km] -- Return time @ approx. 4pm

Approximately 6 hours - (please note that these times may vary) with sufficient time to stop along the way. 2 hours of the allocated time is set aside for breaks and to explore the wonders of nature. This walk will be a walk suitable for those with a moderate minimum level of fitness, but the pace will not be hurried.

SAFETY AND FITNESS - This is for those that are new to hiking or joining our group walks for the first time. This is for those that are concerned about fitness in joining. We cover the same routes as most other groups, but take longer as more time is allocated to breaks (Normally about 2 hours during the day). As group safety is paramount, we walk at the pace of the slowest person, (without any pressure). There is always an experienced hiker at the rear to assist anyone who is struggling and ensure no-one is left behind. We have first aid kits as well as at least 2 x two-way radios on all the walks to enable communication between leader and the person covering the rear at all times.
