ABOUT THE ELECTRIC BIKES
From - https://e-lectricventures.co.za

#########################

E-lectric Ventures offers you a chance to experience the outdoors, regardless of where you are fit, unfit, young or old on their eco-friendly, quiet, stylish comfortable E-bicycles. No previous experience is needed. Here is a link of the types of bikes that we will be riding on the day - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDK7AQrowxI

Electric bikes aren’t motorbikes or even mopeds — instead, they provide power on demand, responding to and complementing your pedalling speed and power. If you pedal hard, little battery power will be used. As you slow your pace, though, the electrical assistance kicks in and provides a welcome little boost! Most e-bikes provide up to 150% of your own power with each pedal stroke. You should still prepare for your time in the saddle, but you’ll have more reward for your efforts.

ABOU THE RESERVE

#########################

Eskom controls 3000 ha of West Coast around the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station. In keeping with both Eskom's environmental policy and national conservation trends - Eskom has decided to open this property to the public. The property was proclaimed as a private nature reserve on 18 October 1991 and was officially opened by the then administrator of the Cape, Kobus Meiring.

Two major veld types are represented on the reserve: West Coast Strandveld and dune veld. As only 0.74% of West Coast Strandveld is being conserved at present, the Koeberg Nature Reserve plays a vital conserving role for this threatened veld type.

The reserve is home to a number of animal species. A number of species occur on the nature reserve, including the Steenbok (Raphicerus campestris), Duiker (Sylvicapra grimmia), Springbok (Antidorcas marsupialis), Burchell’s Zebra (Equus burchelli), Eland (Taurotragus oryx), Gemsbok (Oryx gazella), Blue Wildebeest (Alcelaphus buselaphus), Caracal (Felis caracal) and the Small Grey Mongoose (Galerella pulverulenta).

The area's largest predator is the Caracal (rooikat). The elusive African wild cat, Grey mongoose and genet can also be seen. The most common reptiles are the Cape Cobra (geelslang), Mole snake, Boomslang, Skaapsteker and the angulated tortoise. The reserve has an abundant birdlife with 153 species recorded to date - including the Ostrich, African Fish Eagle and Cape Penduline Tit.

The nature reserve incorporates a number of environments (habitats) which include small seasonal wetlands, coastal dune fields, Cape Flats Dune Strandveld, Atlantis Sand Fynbos , an inter-tidal zone as well as two aquifers namely the Primary Sandveld Aquifer and the Malmesbury Aquifer.

The ‘Koeberg Private Nature Reserve’ was proclaimed in 1991 in terms of Ordinance 19 of 1974. The National Environmental Management (NEM): Protected Areas Act (2003), came into effect after the proclamation of the reserve, and includes previously protected areas under the new act. One of the requirements of NEM: Protected Areas Act (2003) is the requirement to develop a management plan. Koeberg Nature Reserve is thus managed in line with its approved Management Plan.

NEW TERMS OF BOOKING

#########################

For these group events payments are made in advance for Accommodation or Adventure Activities or Permits, hence no refunds are on offer. If you are not able to join, a refund will not be offered unless the event is full and the last person refills your place. Once I have received their payment, I will refund you. I do however make every effort to regularly re-advertise cancelled spaces, via my various listings, that includes Facebook, Meetup and my email listing, in an attempt to fill up the event and hopefully refund you.

If you can't make it for one of the adventures it is recommended that you find a replacement yourself, as I cannot guarantee that a replacement will be found. For the weekends away, any person who takes your place must have done one of the regular walks before the weekend away as per the usual qualifying requirements below.

With cancellations less than 7 days prior to our departure day, NO REFUNDS are on offer and your spot will NOT be re-advertised as it is too short notice. People tend to make other plans and bookings in the last week are very hard to refill unless I have a waiting list.

I also reserve the right to re-schedule or cancel a tour should the minimum number of people not be attained or if the booking is cancelled by the outsourced operator or due to the weather not being suitable; in this case a full refund will be offered.

For more info or directions, contact Iain Macdonald on Tel:[masked] or[masked] or [masked] - Please note that bookings will be on a first-come-first-served basis with payment, so book early to avoid disappointment.
