Wednesday Singing Practice
We start at 7PM on Wednesday nights in the cafeteria of Marigold Elementary (2446 Marigold Ave, Chico). Please arrive a little early to meet and greet. The cafeteria doors are right next to the parking lot so you can't miss us. Be ready to sing and have some fun! It is helpful to bring a bottle of water for yourself. New visitors may stay for a short time (30-60 min) or the whole practice; we usually end at 9:30PM.

What we're about

Sounds of the Valley Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, and we are joined by a love of performing a cappella, four-part harmony. This extraordinary group of women is led by our charismatic director, Lu Fox, who inspires us to reach new heights. We can be heard throughout the year singing for civic and charitable organizations, private groups, Downtown Chico at Christmas, community events and fundraisers. We love to entertain! We hold Open House shows twice a year, dazzle at our “Blingo Bingo,” and we even have opportunities to compete at regional contests! AND, the fun doesn’t end at singing - - we join together throughout the year for girls’ nights out and getaways. Oh my, how we laugh (in harmony, of course)!

We meet on Wednesdays at 7PM in the cafeteria of Marigold Elementary (2446 Marigold Ave, Chico) and welcome any and all women who love to sing! Be prepared to meet a diverse and warm-hearted group of women who have different levels of training and experience. The one thing we ALL have in common is our love and passion for bringing music to life for ourselves and others. Our rehearsals typically go until 9:30PM, but you are welcome to just come visit for the first 30-60 minutes.

Members are not required to read music; we have a great library of learning tracks available for all who learn by ear. When you attend a rehearsal, new guests will be privately interviewed by one of our music leaders who will listen to your vocal range and place you in one of the four barbershop voice parts to start (bass, baritone, lead or tenor). You will then get a "riser buddy" who sings your voice part to help you along. For those who may be nervous about singing in front of others, no worries there. We have safety in numbers and we are prepared! Lu starts each rehearsal with a vocal lesson and continues to support us as we practice. We also help each other in a friendly and welcoming environment to develop and hone our skills.

This ain’t your great-grandma’s barbershop! We have an amazing repertoire of music: jazz, pop, Broadway hits, ballads, holiday, patriotic, and so on. All songs are performed in the barbershop tradition of four part harmony, making it irresistible to love!
