What we're about

Our group is past maximum capacity at this time. Thanks for your interest.

Hi! We have a vibrant group of writers, some of whom have won or been chosen as finalists for Texas based writing organization contests; one has secured an agent. We fully expect this to expand.

Our group meets every Saturday morning. We need members who will attend regularly, at least twice per month. If you want constructive feedback on your work, this is the group for you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Located in South Austin, this group is for writers who want constructive, positive feedback on their work. We don't tell you how to write, but give you the writer's perspective on what you've written. We are here to improve our skills both as writers and as critiquers. We support one another, encouraging and cheering on our writing careers. So whether you are newer to writing or a seasoned writer, we welcome your participation.
Genres of fiction, non-fiction, and short stories are welcome, with the exception of erotica. We do not critique poetry or screenplays.
Critiquing is a skill that all of us can do in a positive and honest way. The feedback that you will receive is invaluable. We all know that our writing is personal. It's your baby and so we give you the insights on what needs work and what works well.
The meeting format:
Introductions
First presentation - handouts from one presenter are read, silently by the group. Group members make written notes of what they like in the piece, what is unclear, what they wish they knew more about. Always start with the positive. (about 15 minutes)
Verbal Critique - one by one, we tell the presenter about the critique comments. No one speaks at this time but the critiquer. Try not to repeat what others have already said. Use your time for the unique in your response, as the presenter will receive your full, written comments at the end (2 minutes per person)
Verbal Response - Now the presenter has the opportunity to respond to the critique questions and comments. (3 minutes) Everyone gives back to the presenter the copy of the work with their written critique.
Then we repeat until all presentations have been reviewed.
