[RESCHEDULED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER]
Join us for an easy hike at Coyote Hills Region Park. Marsh land, ponds, wildlife, and gorgeous views of the bay. What's there not to like?
The hike totals approximately 7 miles and an elevation gain of 700 feet. This is one of the easier hikes, yet physically and mentally rewarding. As of today, Sunday May 19th is projected to be cloudy with a chance of light shower. The event will be canceled if heavy rain is forecasted, though hiking in light rain (in easy terrain, especially paved terrain) is a treat! However, if the trails are wet, we may choose to modify the route and go on paved trails only.
We'll meet at the Quarry Staging Area (the largest parking lot, but not the one at the Visitor Center). We'll go through the following sequence of trails:
Quarry Staging Area (start)
--> Muskrat Trail
--> Chochenyo Trail
--> D.U.S.T. Trail
--> Alameda Creek Trail
--> Pelican Trail
--> Bayview Trail (North)
--> Red Hill Trail (break for snack at the top of the hill)
--> Soaproot Trail (to the waterfront)
--> Bayview Trail (South)
--> Quarry Staging Area (end)
Mileage: Muskrat (0.32 + 0.07) + Chochenyo (0.22 + 0.01 + 0.17) + D.U.S.T. (0.39 + 0.30) + Alameda (1.12 + 0.68) + Pelican (1.02) + Bayview (0.12) + Red Hill (0.41 + 0.41 + 0.15) + Soaproot (0.32) + Bayview (0.70 + 0.07 + 0.24 + 0.10 + 0.28) = 7.10 miles
Here's the trail map:
Parking is $5 and so carpool is highly recommended. If you intend to park in the outside small free parking lot, please plan accordingly as there is a long walk to the Quarry Staging Area, even longer if the lot is full (as is often the case). We'll limit total attendance to 30, so please sign up early if you intend to secure a spot. Also, if you are not going please remove your RSVP at least 24 hours before. No show or late RSVP removal will be marked as such and will impact your attendance eligibility to popular events.
PLEASE PLAN TO ARRIVE AT LEAST 20 MINUTES PRIOR TO START TIME WHETHER YOU SINCE THE TINY PARKING LOT WILL BE FULL AND YOU WILL HAVE TO PARK AND WALK UP TO HALF A MILE. BEWARE OF PARKING RESTRICTIONS.
What to bring: sunscreen, hat, lots of water (1L at least), good hiking shoes, light snack, layers of clothing, and positive attitude. Please check the weather and evaluate how much to wear.
This event is hosted by unpaid volunteers. All participants must agree to be fully responsible for their own safety, to make decision on their own including whether participation is appropriate taking into consideration personal medical and health conditions
