Wow, this place is awesome. The trails go on forever and with such great views. Mammoth has something for everyone. A must do for all true mountain bikers!

    September 3, 2013

  • Michelle

I had a fun day of riding Saturday with Ray G., and a fun weekend with some nice people. The mountain vistas were gorgeous, and there were lots of trail choices, from fun and flowy to send-you-to-the-hospital. Something for everybody, and miles of it.

Any chance of a group meetup for dinner or a ride on Sunday?

    August 31, 2013

    • Michelle

Hey Alan we're planning to meet tonight for dinner with anyone who wants to join us. 7pm meet at firepit nearest stage/mountain center in the village.

      August 31, 2013

    • Alan K

      Sounds good[masked]

For us that couldn't make it down there, we wanna see pics.

I'm bringing some bike tools...Shock Pump, Floor Pump, Stand, Chain Tools, Lube, tie wraps, wire cutters, and screwdrivers, so hit me up if you have a mechanical problem.

    August 30, 2013

    • Michelle

You know, Adam always brings bolt cutters. Got any if those? ;-)

Hi Andy, still want to meetup tomorrow?

      August 30, 2013

  • Michelle

FYI. The lift ticket office opens at 8:30, with the first shuttle leaving at 9. Shuttles get busy mid day. Dinner Saturday evening will be somewhere within walking distance of the village, maybe meet around 7 in the village somewhere and go from there? Subject to change based on how wiped out we are. This is not a typical Ray ride/weekend with a planned route. Just go play on the mountain! Let's ride!

    August 30, 2013

  • Alan K

Steven and I are in mammoth, just wondering if there is some sort of group dinner gathering. If so, location and time?

    August 30, 2013

    • Michelle

Hi Alan. Sorry we are on our own tonight as some of us had a long drive.

      August 30, 2013

  • Suzanne

Woohoo! Enjoying beer at Toomeys in Mammoth Lakes. Taking 108 was beautiful even though it was smokey. Camping tonight. Friday am brekkie in town and Mammoth Bluegrass Fest starting at 2 pm. Beautiful here!! - Suzanne and Carine

    2 · August 29, 2013

    • Vinh P.

Hi Suzanne- May I ask how long was the drive for that route? Thanks.

      August 29, 2013

    • Suzanne

      5-5.5 hours from mountain view

      1 · August 30, 2013

  • Andy U.

I will be heading out Friday Afternoon and coming back Sunday after I ride in case anyone wants to carpool.

    1 · August 29, 2013

  • Alan K

The mammoth games are on 9/4 will you guys still be there by then? Would love to meetup with the group for the first time :)

    August 28, 2013

    • Ray G

@Alan, I think most of us will be heading back on Monday before the crowd moves into the place.

      August 29, 2013

  • Michelle

I'm starting to get pretty stoked about this weekend! Looks like the rim fire is getting under control (thanks to 4000+ firefighters!) and we should have a fantastic weekend of riding here. See you up there!

    1 · August 29, 2013

  • Ray G

I am not sure of the best way to get to Mammoth at this time. I was thinking of going through Yosemite via 140 to 120 and onto 395. With the fire in the north part things may change. I found this site that seems to have some good info, http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/rimfire-directions.htm
Just be sure to check you route befoe you head out.

    August 28, 2013

    • Michelle

Because part of Tioga Road (120) is closed (and I read in the Mercury that it will remain closed through the weekend) we can't access 395 via 120. It will have to be 108 to 395 or the 88/89/395 route mentioned below. The upside? Maybe we'll have the place to ourselves. :-)

      August 28, 2013

  • Steven M.

Anyone else wants to car-pool for this trip? I am planning on leaving around 11am on Friday.

    August 28, 2013

  • Steven M.

So has anyone picked a spot in Sherwin Creek campground yet? I was looking into making a reservation.

    August 2, 2013

    • Steven M.

I still have my space (#22), and have one other potential person joining me for the ride up. The space has room for 6 (and I have a 6 person tent), but need to resolve some family issues before I can go on this trip.

      August 26, 2013

    • vincent U.

I should have space on my spot if someone need to put his tent ;-)

      August 27, 2013

  • Steven M.

With the Rim Fire, it seems like both highways 120 & 108 will be closed (or restricted), which routes are people planning on using to get to Mammoth?

    August 27, 2013

    • A former member
      A former member

http://www.dot.ca.gov... currently shows 108 as being open (obviously this could change but guess we'll just have to keep checking before heading out.

      August 27, 2013

    • Steven M.

I saw that it was open, but I figured that there would be lots of smoke and trucks on the road, so it might be very slow going that route.

      August 27, 2013

  • Andy U.

Anyone interested in downhill lessons? I would like to share the cost of a lesson with person/persons of more or less equal ability. I would say I am interested in riding the harder intermediate or easier black diamond trails.

    August 6, 2013

    • Andy U.

Steven. Lessons are not required for any trails. That said, a good coach can improve one's abilities more than a good bike - and the coach is cheaper!

      August 9, 2013

    • Ivan

I'm interested if I can find a camping spot for the weekend

      August 26, 2013

  • Ivan

I would love to go but don't have a camping spot can somebody share their space for me and my small tent, of course I'll pay my fees, I can drive 4bike

    August 26, 2013

  • Steven M.

I have a camping spot reserved, a 6-person tent and space in the car for 1 more (can only carry 2 bikes) if anyone is interested. More can join if desired.

    August 15, 2013

    • Vinh P.

Do you still have a spot for one person and one bike?

      August 22, 2013

  • Andy U.

I am looking for someone to ride with who wants to do mostly black diamond (orange on the map) with maybe a couple of intermediate runs to warm up and maybe a couple double blacks for a challenge (red on the map).

Based on my ability, I'm not sure if I can keep up with you Andy (but willing to try). If not, I'm looking to ride with those who'd like to ride the "more difficult" trails (blue) and a few "difficult" trails (orange) here and there.

      August 21, 2013

    • Andy U.

Sounds great. We'll know what the trails are like after we get there. As the day goes on, we will find our levels. Let's plan on starting out together and then we will see how things go.

      August 22, 2013

  • Ray G

Just so everyone is aware, I am not planning any specific ride or time to ride. With over 80 miles of trails, everyone should have a fun time. Looking for someone to ride with, just hang out at the shuttle area and others will be there.

    August 21, 2013

  • Nancy

Not gonna make it to this one, darn!

    August 13, 2013

  • Andy U.

Anyone have an idea of how Mammoth compares with Northstar or Whistler? What kind of Mammoth trail might compare with A-line?

    August 9, 2013

  • Daphne C

    Can't attend :(

    August 4, 2013

  • Suzanne

Let's camp! Is anyone else interested in camping and hanging out around a campfire? We'll get a little stinky but can hold a bag of water over each other to shower off and smell acceptable.

    1 · July 16, 2013

    • KAo

Is everyone booked for carpooling? Hoping I can carpool with someone. Tent site too. Thanks.

      August 1, 2013

    • KAo

Will def split gas and fees. More since I'm not driving or vice Versa.

      August 1, 2013

  • Michelle

I think this weekend will be fairly random, with everyone doing what they want to do, trail-wise, with optional beer and food get-togethers in the evenings. That said, I'd like to get the ladies together for a mellow pace ride (Off the Top and Beach Cruiser are supposed to be awesome intermediate trails) and lunch or something, since we'll be up there for three days. Let me know if there is interest.

    June 20, 2013

    • Carine

Which day are you thinking about doing the ladies ride?

      July 18, 2013

    • Nancy

I'm up for a mellow ladies' ride!

      July 23, 2013

  • Michele

I'm driving down early Friday am and leaving mid-to late afternoon on Sunday. Not doing the bus thing because I'm bring my pooch so I can cruise him around the area. If anyone is interested in carpooling, I have room for one person and one bike.

    July 16, 2013

    • Gabi

If there isn't a bus, I'd love to carpool with you and the pup.

      July 16, 2013

  • Michelle

With 25 people already stoked for yet another of our awesome out-of-town trips, I'm working with Mammoth Mountain on getting a group discount on lodging and lift tickets. I'll provide more information in a few days. Also, is there interest in chartering a bus (like you would do for a ski trip)? For either lodging or a bus trip it would help for me to know if you are coming by yourself or planning to bring a spouse/family. Thanks! Post it here or send me a meetup message/email me.

    July 9, 2013

    • Gabi

Bus or carpool would be nice

      July 10, 2013

    • Michelle

Hey guys I'm afraid you're on your own for lodging and transportation - the group terms were a little too restrictive and put me on the hook ($) for more than I was comfortable with. Thanks for your understanding! Hope to see you up there. Let's ride Mammoth!

Not get your meaning but as a pre teen ager in the Boston area I never used one. I guess I was too embarresed( spelling?) to ask the counter person for them.

      June 20, 2013

  • Andy U.

For those interested in lift-assisted riding, they offer, for $30, rental of a full-face helmet, elbow and knee protection. I would highly recommend this if you are going to go for it.

    June 20, 2013

  • Els

    Are we doing lift?

    June 19, 2013

    • Ray G

Els, there are 80 miles of trails, you may do anything you wish.
