Golden Gate Bridge Coastal Trail

  • This location is shown only to members

NEW PARKING AREA AND STARTING POINT: Due to road construction along Bunker Road, I am moving the parking location. At the McCullough/Bunker Road intersection, drive .8 miles west to the horse stables dirt parking lot on the left. Let's Ride!

Time to head back north to see these great views of the city, the bridge, and the ocean. We did this ride twice last year and had a great time. You should plan now to attend before it fills up.

Ok first off, this ride is just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is a little further than our normal rides, but I think the views will be awesome if the fog stays away.

We will start from horse stable dirt lot on Bunker Road. Print out these directions to follow.

Tires roll at 10:13 AM or sooner if all YES RSVP's are present. Please be there by the meet time, we don't want to leave without you!

Remember, all riders need to be members of & South Bay Mountain Bike Group. Guest are no longer allowed. All riders need to RSVP as a member.

Start: from the dirt parking lot where Coastal Trail crosses Bunker Road.

Distance: 15 miles?

Ride time: About 3 1/2 hours?

Difficulty: moderate, nontechnical ride with some steady climbing, suitable for hardy beginners. This is a Level 2 Ride.

Trail surface: 10% dirt fire road, 80% paved road, and 10% single track.

North on Highway 101 over the Golden Gate Bridge.

You may want to stop at the vista point just after you cross the bridge, to use the restrooms, there are none from here to the start point.

Exit the Highway after you cross the Golden Gate Bridge at Alexander Ave, just after the vista point area.

When you exit, keep to the right and head toward Sausalito.

Turn left in about a half mile. You want to take the second left after you exit the freeway. There is an info sign that directs you left for, "Fort Baker/Toward Marin Headlands" Drive through the tunnel ahead. This is Bunker Road West.                                                                                                                               You will past McCullough Road on the left, then look for a field on the left and right.        Just after the right field is a small dirt parking area used by hikers & bikers.

There may be cars parked there already. I will try to arrive early.

You should allow about 1 1/2 hours from San Jose area.

Note:The dirt lot is about 1.9 miles from the left turn off of Alexander Ave.

Note:Wear layers in case the fog is still in the area. Bring water & a snack.

***Please remember, a helmet is required for all our rides***
