Night Rides Are Here!!!

  • Jan 15, 2014 · 6:15 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Lights are required!!!

Parking: The parking lot entrance can close as early as 6:00 pm although this is rare. There is street parking but it isn't as convenient. I suggest arriving early to be safe. Parking lot exit stays open until 10:00 pm.

Tires Roll at 6:30

Distance: 6 miles total (4 miles up, 2 miles down)

Elevation Gain: 1,400 ft (long extended climbs)

Duration: Approximately 1-1/2 hr

Terrain: Fire Road Pace: Not fast but steady. Will regroup often (don't want anyone getting lost in the dark!)

Required Equipment: Bike Light(s), Helmet, Layered Clothing Four Legged Friends Welcome: Well behaved/social dogs are welcome to join this ride. It is highly recommended that your dog obeys the command "leave it" due to occasional encounters with cows, skunks and on rare occasions, coyotes.

Weather: Rain 24-48 hours prior to ride will most likely be reason to cancel. Soft clay soil can be nasty when wet. But then this is California, when does it ever rain!

Please remember to wear a helmet, bring water, and check that your bike is ready to ride. Also remember to carry an extra tube and a chain master link with you that fits your bike. Its ok if you need help to repair it, you will have the items needed to keep your ride going.

Remember, all riders need to be members of Meetup.com & South Bay Mountain Bike Group. Guest are no longer allowed. All riders need to RSVP as a member.

Great night for a ride! Warm, crystal clear and well lit by the full moon. Didn't even need lights for half the ride. May we have many more just like this one!

This would be fun to do, but trying to get across the Bay from work at this time is out of the question for me...

Hey Larry, Eventually I may push the start time out when the sun sets latter in the day. The only problem will be making sure the parking lot is still open. Hopefully your schedule allows you to join the group with your Lumina 700!

I would like to do the night rides at some future time. Any recommendations/suggestions for lights?

    January 9, 2014

    • larry p.

Tasso, I have the Lumina 700 and it's a great light. I'd highly recommend it, esp. when you can get it on sale. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Larry. I will check that out, too.

Put my bike in the shop last night and don't think it will be out by tomorrow :( If anyone needs to borrow lights for this weeks ride, let me know...

Yes it is. Whipple turns into May Rd. after crossing Mission. Parking lot is at end of May Rd.
