Australia Day is coming up soon and although there is already a walk planned, do I want to invite anyone to come along to Canberra for the long weekend and of course camp out and do some great walks in an area that we haven't explored previously.
Woods Reserve Camping Site is situated to the south of Canberra on the banks of Gibraltar Creek, it is a popular place for camping, picnics and an ideal venue for large groups and events. It is available for overnight camping and day use and pets are allowed too! It has great bbq spots, toilets and showers. It does not need to be booked beforehand. You just rock up and pay $12 per person per night through a donation box.
For more information on the camp site see http://www.tams.act.gov.au/parks-recreation/recreational_activities/camping_in_the_act/woods_reserve_recreation_area.
Saturday, day of arrival I suggest we drive to the visitor centre and explore all the different smaller walks such as the boardwalk, sanctuary and the woodlands. This can easily add up to a 8-10km walk for the day. It will be very relaxing.
Sunday, we go for a harder walk with the option of Camels Hump what is graded as a hard walk with a total of 19km or we can go for a combination of Devils Gap and Gibraltar Peak. For more information on all these walks please see http://www.tidbinbilla.com.au/files/view/?id=383 .
On Australia day we pack our tents and drive to Canberra. In the morning we rent bikes and cycle around Lake Burley Griffin. For more information see http://www.visitcanberra.com.au/Visitor-Info/~/media/Files/Home/Visitor%20info/Brochures%20and%20maps/Cycling_brochure_web.ashx . In the avo we can enjoy the Australia day activities happening in Canberra. My partner John Paul is planning to organise a photography session that afternoon, so anyone interested in that can join him otherwise we will hang out in Canberra and enjoy hopefully the great weather :)
It is going to be a great weekend away and I hope we soon get some members to come along.
