What we're about
If you are curious about mindfulness, meditation or just want to find some calm and peace of mind, this is a class for people who are interested in learning how to practice mindfulness meditation. We will meet weekly to learn about and practice mindfulness meditation and create a supportive community with other practitioners.
"Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally." Jon Kabat-Zinn
This meetup is suitable for anyone who would like to learn and/or be part of a meditation group. We will practice being present with whatever arises in each moment and without judgment. We will learn to be patient, loving and kind with ourselves. The practice is quite simple really, and can be profoundly deep; it is about increasing our awareness of ourselves, thoughts, feelings and emotions and the world around us while working on our judgements and expanding our sense of compassion.
Mindfulness is now widely taught in businesses and organizations such as Google, Apple, Proctor & Gamble, General Mills, healthcare networks, educational institutions, military and other prominent and cutting-edge institutions. Even the Seattle Seahawks players and coach Pete Carroll practice mindfulness meditation (https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/meditation-modern-life/201402/how-meditation-won-the-super-bowl)!
The advantages of mindfulness have been scientifically established and it is rapidly being appreciated by more and more people. Mindfulness is for everybody.
Our lives are filled with so much information, busyness and distraction that we sometimes start feeling lost and overwhelmed. Creating a Mindfulness practice can help us to slow down, so that we can notice that the conditions for happiness are already present.
Please RSVP if planning to attend. (Please note: more people attend our weekly meditation gatherings than RSVP via meetup, so please come even if the meetup says that only 1 person has RSVP'd).
Chairs are provided. Wear layers – it is important to be comfortable and the temperature in the room can vary. Also, please bring a water bottle.
