BOOK SLAM: The Art of the Lie
• What we'll do Its back! After a long absence our favorite bookish event is back! Make sure you grab a ticket for this one, they usually sell out! Wednesday, 14 March 2018 "Art of the Lie" Brexit, bullshit, bad shit and bat shit crazy Book Slam x Penguin Live @ York Hall 5-15 Old Ford Road Bethnal Green E2 9PJ Doors open at 7pm for an 8pm start. Book Slam emerges in the company of our good friends at Penguin punch drunk and tardy from the car crash of last year for our first event of 2018. Appropriately, we’re back at iconic boxing venue York Hall to be joined by a big-hitting line-up from across the political and cultural spectrum. Guests include former Deputy Prime Minister NICK CLEGG who will tell us “How To Stop Brexit”; one of the UK’s most astute political commentators, MATTHEW D’ANCONA, to introduce us to “Post-Truth”; and acclaimed historian and journalist, MISHA GLENNY, author of “McMafia”, “Dark Market” and “Nemesis”. And to lift our spirits? Poetry from the utterly brilliant DEANNA RODGER, and sublime music from NATHAN BALL (think Van Morrison meets Bon Iver in Padstow). Laughs are courtesy of double Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee ANDREW MAXWELL, flush with victory on "Celebrity Mastermind", and our host, old pal and self-proclaimed knucklehead, FELICITY WARD. There'll be food available from the excellent CULT and books on sale thanks to LIBRERIA. Be there. Buy Tickets HERE: https://bookslam.com/events-2/ • What to bring • Important to know This event will sell out fast so grab a ticket if you want to come along!

What we're about

Public Group

This is a group for anyone who lives south of the river or those who want to explore the area and meet new people. This is a democratic book club where everyone can recommend a good book for the group to read and where we can also recommend good pubs / bars to meet in the area. Hopefully this will lead to good conversations, new friends and discovering new drinking establishments south of the river.
