July Jam and Summer Thematic

Hi, SPAMers!

Just wanted to encourage you to come to the next jam- it should be lots of fun!

I thought it might be interesting to have a "theme" of Summer to help us jump into learning and sharing "new" songs. 'Course, this ain't mandatory; we can sing and play whatever we want to! (within bounds of decency).

A theme can allow focus and opportunity to learn and grow. I know I need "external accountability factor" now and then to keep reaching beyond myself. This group provides the impetus for me to do just that.

So, in keeping with the theme, Summer, (again- only a point of inspiration; NOT a "requirement"), you can google, YouTube, ransack old music books and bring the diversity of your research to play your chosen song at our next group, whady'a say?!

Here are some suggestions:

Brian Adams: (Summer of '69) :!v=eFjjO_lhf9c&feature=related

Will Smith: (Summertime):

Jannis Joplin: (Summertime):!v=A27FF2T2z2k&feature=related

Chad and Jeremy (A Summer Song):!v=_D2XD341xHo&feature=related

Stevie Wonder: (Summer Soft):!v=UDnwWkxEnMY&feature=related

Koop: (Summer Sun):!v=CKHTlt48ySY&feature=related

The Corrs: (Summer Sunshine):

The BEach Boys: (All Summer Long):

Theme from a Summer Place:

Celtic Women: (The Last Rose of Summer):

The BEatles: (Here Comes the Sun):!v=U6tV11acSRk&feature=related

Cliff Richard: (Here Comes Summer):!v=MBAVPW_g_lE&feature=related

Bobby Hebb: (Sunny)

Morrissey: (Sunny-(original))

John Denver: (Sunshine on my Shoulders)

O.K, is this a good start? YOu can google for the lyrics to songs you want to learn. This is a great resource, because there is a video of the specific song you're looking up.

As for the chords, you can challenge yourself to learn them by ear by playing back the video, piece by piece (good ear training)... OR, you can again, google the song for the chords and music. Here's a link to do so:

(Here's an example of John Denver's 'Sunshine on my Shoulders'):

SO- Please r.s.v.p.- maybe you can even write in what song you'd like to share on the theme of summer or what you're learning and wish to play in your r.s.v.p...

Please bring food/ drinks/ wine, chord charts to share (if you've the time) and maybe a dollar to help defray group cost. Oh, and a great group attitude which is inclusive and sensitive to others. Everyone will have a chance to bring in their songs, with probably about three go 'rounds.

THanks, and have a wonderful 4th of July celebration! I want to have a good turnout for this next jam, so don't be shy to r.s.v.p. YES! I've got ideas for the group as we carry forth, so keep in the mix and keep showin' up! There's more, I promise!

Cheers, and stay active 'n practice up!

It's always a plus to meet new musicians. As well it's great to play with those whom we become familiar with- we've been achieving a greater cohesiveness with those who've returned consistently. I look forward to learning and growing through feeling inspired by the wealth of talent and enthusiasm that's shown by those who come to play together.
