Club Member (Elaine's) Meetup - Potluck/Lavender Farm/Hypertufa Containers

  • Jul 20, 2013 · 11:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

This meeting will be a potluck, so be sure to bring a side dish. Elaine has graciously offered to host our group for a fun time going to a local lavendar farm for a visit and creating some Hypertufa containers (please check photo albums - Hypertufa to get an idea what it is).

As we get closer to date, there will be more details for supplies to bring if you are interested in making these type of containers.

I'm more of a maybe. Would love to attend, but will take an hour to drive to, an hour back, plus an hour for the potluck. We wait and see in the morning.

Hi. Late notice so I won't plan on participating in the pot activity. Will bring a potluck item (via grocery store!) and look forward to the socializing!

Keep in mind, the hypertufa project is optional. You are not expected to make one. If you'd like to join us just for any part of this garden meet you are certainly welcome to do so. There is plenty of room to explore this five acre spread.

Sorry, Elaine...really want to see the new garden building and all you've done. See you next time.

I am looking forward to this event, just a little over a week now. I've been gathering details and am ready to share with you. We will have many choices of things/events to do as it is a fairly busy day in Eatonville.

Besides the hypertufa project and potluck happening at my house, we can travel up the road just two miles to Stringtown Lavendar Farm and Winery. The lavendar is just coming into prime season now, also our day happens to coincide with an Art Show there. The the farm is hosting a number of artists who will be painting, photographing, and creating crafts. No admission fee. Also there is usually wine and chocolate tastings going on just inside the farms small gift shop. I will check on whether that is still available for us on the 20th. More info at stringtownfarms.com

Then later, if you care to venture on your own a bit futher into the town of Eatonville (just another 4 miles) the Eatonville Garden Tour is going on from 10am-4pm July 20-21. Tickets required. But no fee for the vendors garden show at the Visitor Center in town. Only garden related items will be sold. More info at eatonvillegardentour.com

As for our hypertufa project, your supply list is minimal. Basically all you need to bring is your mold which should consist of two pieces, one smaller (being the inside wall) and the second slightly larger shape will be the outside wall. Almost anything can be used from boxes, to plastic food containes, etc. Be creative. Even one flat random shape can work if you want to do a stepping stone, or art piece instead of a planter. You can bring any embellishments you care to add. If doing a stepping stone, reinforcement wire is recommened. I will supply the hypertufa medium that consists of portland cement, vermiculite and peat moss. A $6.00 fee will help to cover the cost, however you are welcome to haul your own cement, etc if you wish.

As the date nears I will watch for those who have RSVP'd so that I have adequate supplies. As it is somewhat of a guess for me as to how much will be needed, it is most helpful to respond ASAP. Those who do so should be guaranteed enough hypertufa mix needed. Please keep your project size modest, this will insure that everbody gets to complete one. I cannot guarantee supplies to those who do not rsvp. Thanks.

Supply list should consist of: mold containers
    embellishments,ie. beads, stones, impressions
    reinforcement wire
    rubber gloves
    $6
    potluck item

Watch for the bright sunflower signs at the obvious corners as you get closer, hopefully they will alert those who haven't been here before. Its definitely helpful to familarize yourself with the map beforehand, as many have been lost previously. It is a gravel road for a short distance. Dont' be alarmed, it gets better. Please feel free to email me via this website for any detailed directions, questions and my cell number. Also the gate will be closed, you can email me for the code or take you luck using the call button when you get here.

FYI...I do have three large dogs that will greet you. Please let me know ahead of time if you have a problem with this so I can be prepared.

Potluck reminder... it helps to know what type of food you're bringing. I will supply hot and cold drinks. Watermelon, and a dessert.

    (See map: http://goo.gl/maps/oso7z )
Could anyone pick me up and then drop me off back there?
