Edgewood County Park

About Edgewood County Park:

The serpentine grasslands of Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve are famous for their magnificent displays of wildflowers each spring. The park's location, within easy access to Interstate 280 and Edgewood Road, makes this beautiful display readily accessible to the population centers of the San Francisco Peninsula. The Park's 467 acres of woodlands and grasslands afford wonderful hiking and sightseeing opportunities.

Hike Description:

We will probably go about 5 miles - many trails to take on this hike.

Length and Elevation:

This is a 5-7 mile wildflower hike so we will stop and view the flowers along the way.  This hike is meant to complement our more strenuous hikes.  It is easy to moderate.

Directions:

When coming to Edgewood from the north (San Francisco), use Highway 280. Turn off at the Edgewood Road exit. Turn eastbound on Edgewood Road (towards San Carlos and Redwood City). Proceed approximately 1.5 miles. The main park entrance will be on the south side of the road.

When coming to Edgewood from the south (San Jose), use Highway 280. Turn off at the Edgewood Road exit. Turn eastbound on Edgewood Road (towards San Carlos and Redwood City). Proceed approximately 1.5 miles. The main park entrance will be on the south side of the road.

Carpool: I come from San Francisco so please arrange a carpool amongst yourselves.  We need to be there by 8:30 am to get spots in the parking lot.

Did you have a chance to check out the red shoulder hawk nest by the interactive center? We went and when they told us about the hawk and the baby birds, Viggo said, "oh, are those the baby birds we eat?" Well, he is my nephew no doubt.

Thanks everyone for being patients with us. Viggo did very well on his 4th hike and first time with real boots by doing 4.42 miles in a little less than 3 hrs. He loves all the cool things we found on the trails. Thanks Monica for leading.

We are so happy that Viggo had a great time! That's a long way for a little guy!

He likes hiking with the Ramblers. Now he needs to speed up and add the distance.

Thanks for leading a wonderful hike at Edgewood Park on Sunday, Monica. It was the first time we explored the trail system there and plan to go again since it's so close to home. Michael and I really enjoyed socializing with our friends and fellow hikers - that's what makes it special.

Hardly any families wandering around...lots of open space, beautiful views of cities far away and more flowers than we can name. Thanks Monica !

This is a beautiful park, with easy trails...usually lots of families in the afternoons. Your mom is a great hiker, so this will be easy for her! Bring dad...a great place to build back his strength!

In other words, are you saying this is a wussy hike?

    March 26, 2013

    • Monica

      YES, we are!

ok, may be I can take my mom or even my dad, if you let me. Hopefully she won't be disappointed like last time at Russian Hill which advertised as easy and wildflower hike and ended up with no flower and a long ass climb. Probably have to bribe them with food.
