New Meet-up Feature - Membership Dues

From: Dawn

Hi South Bay Ramblers,

As you know, we have yearly dues of $12.00 to join and be a member of the South Bay Ramblers. The dues are used to help us pay the meet-up fees, provide food and supplies at our annual picnic, keep a reserve fund and several other expenses. The dues are currently waived for members who organize an event or lead us on at least one hike/event a year. We currently have 14 active organizers and a few other honorary members whose dues are waived due to all they do or have done for the South Bay Ramblers. These are the members who help keep this group going by constantly posting hikes or they are members who helped us this get this group started.

In order to keep track of dues, we are now using a new Meet-up feature that will remind you if you membership dues are not current. A lot of you have asked me for this feature in the past so I’m pleased to say it’s now available. If you are currently an active organizer or an honorary member of our group, your membership dues will be logged by me. If you are a member of the group who haven’t yet paid your dues or your dues have expired, you will receive a reminder from meet-up and you will need to pay before you RSVP for your next meet-up.

While many groups come and go, our group has been consistent in leading hikes since 2005 thanks to the strong membership in this group. Our group remains small because we are an active membership based group. We find this type of group works best and helps prevent our group from spiraling out of control like many meet-up groups and from excessive numbers of RSVPs for our hikes. The result is more engaged members and a more pleasant experience for our hikers. Our goal is always the safety of our hikers by leading smaller groups and to protect the environment.

Thanks for your cooperation and hope to see you hiking soon.
