BORDENTOWN CITY —The Bordentown City Green Team, a sub-committee of the Bordentown City Environmental Commission, has been awarded Silver Certification from Sustainable Jersey.

According to a press release, Bordentown City also received the award for Sustainability Champion in the small municipal category.

The Sustainability Champion award recognizes municipalities that have scored the most points in the Sustainable Jersey certification program in three population categories. Bordentown City far exceeded the minimum requirement of 150 points needed for certification.

The Bordentown City Environmental Commission and Green Team volunteers spearheaded many activities this year that contributed to Bordentown City’s successful Sustainable Jersey application, including the city’s fourth annual Green Fair, rain barrel and backyard composting workshops, formation of a creative team, a lighting fair, education and outreach about the negative impacts of vehicle idling and establishment of no-idling zones within the city.

Currently, 399 of New Jersey’s 565 municipalities are registered with the Sustainable Jersey program. Bordentown City is among only 12 of those communities to have received Silver Certification.

”The City of Bordentown is a community of deep history, a vibrant business district and most importantly, outstanding and dedicated citizens. We have expanded our awareness in many areas, but one of major significance is the environment. Our Environmental Commission and the Green Team are second to none,” said Joseph Malone, Bordentown City Mayor. “The members of the Green Team and Environmental Commission are informed in state of the art information and techniques and offer many practical environmental courses and talks.”

I think they would be wise to throw the certificate away and keep and keep the silver. The certificate will be as valuable as a Federal Reserve Note soon. The silver though......
