Canning foods at home is a great way to be frugal and to preserve the abundance of the harvest. Whether you are growing the food yourself or simply taking advantage of the freshness and low cost of farm markets, home canning will let you keep those foods for a lot longer.
This class will cover several methods of canning: oven canning, hot pack, open kettle, and pressure canning. We will cover the reasons you might select each method and the equipment needed.
Each person should bring 3 pounds of plum tomatoes and 2 pounds of potatoes (Russets are good) for the hands on fun.
Bring lunch/snack and beverages.
This event is rain or shine, partly indoors and partly outdoors.
