We'll plan to do the Elephant Head trail as a loop. Starting at the Whipple Visitor Center we'll head up Mt. Hopkins Rd to the trail head and ride the trail out to Proctor Rd, turn around and ride the single track back to the dirt road and to the Hawk's Way trail head. From there, we'll ride the pavement back up to the Visitor Center.
Intermediate level ride with a fair amount of climbing and some loose, rocky descents. Trail is about 11 miles one way. Ride back on the pavement is about 9 miles uphill.
There may be an option to start at Hawk's Way with some Green Valley folks.
Also, may be possible to arrange a shuttle from Hawk's Way if we want.
Carpooling from Tucson: Meet at the Home Depot parking lot (near the McDonald's) on Irvington Rd, just west of I-19 at 730 am.
**Bring some hand clippers if possible. We can trim overgrown areas of cat claw if needed.
