We have been discussing changing it up for labor day this year and heading to the Mogollon Rim. We will camp at the Kehl Springs Campground. From Payson, drive about 29 miles north on AZ 87 to FR 300 (the General Crook Trail). Turn right (east) on FR300 and drive 6 miles to the campground. The campground has 8 single unit sites with tables and cooking grills. There are vault toilets on site. There is no water on site. There is also no fee to camp there. The site says the campground usage is light to medium, so we expect sites to be open when we get there. If not, there are plenty of spots along the road for the group to set up. Going to have to play this one by ear. You can find out more information about the campsite here http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/coconino/recarea/?recid=54916
As far as riding, the two planned rides will be to do the cabin loop and a loop on FR 141, to AZ 87, to FR 751 to the AZT. Information about the cabin loop trail system can be found here http://www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsinternet/!ut/p/c5/04_SB8K8xLLM9MSSzPy8xBz9CP0os3gDfxMDT8MwRydLA1cj72BTn0AjAwgAykeaxcN4jhYG_h4eYX5hPgYwefy6w0H24dcPNgEHcDTQ9_PIz03VL8iNMMgycVQEADoWIdk!/dl3/d3/L2dJQSEvUUt3QS9ZQnZ3LzZfME80MEkxVkFCOTBFMktTNUJIMjAwMDAwMDA!/?ss=110304&navid=110000000000000&pnavid=null&cid=FSE_003741&recid=74999&ttype=recarea&navtype=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&position=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&pname=Coconino+National+Forest+-+Cabin+Loop+Trail
We can decide what part of the cabin loop we are doing based on the group.
There are also plenty of dirt roads around for those that are less enthused about any of the longer rides.
