What we're about

Welcome! Our group is for active Californians in their 30s, 40s, and 50s who like to travel. Yes, we use the term "Gen X" very loosely - its more of a state of mind. :) Since we, as Gen X Californians in our older/wiser age, tend to be more selective about where and how we travel, this group’s focus is on non-touristy, responsible travel (to local, domestic and international destinations). Non-touristy just means high-quality trips to cool, distinctive destinations (e.g., Iceland) with lots of character, as opposed to the cheapest vacations to the same old touristy spots. Responsible simply means patronizing locally-owned hotels and restaurants so that we give back - the money you spend stays in the local community, which is not the case with most mass tourism that only works with the huge international chains. Our broad definition of Gen-X means people in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s, so our goal with the age preference is simply to bring together folks who are in the same general age bracket with similar high quality values and adventurous spirit.

Besides our guiding principles, we go wherever we want to go! Near and far, domestic and international, beach and city, mountains and lakes, adventure and relaxation, day trips to two week getaways and everything in between. This is our travel club and it’s all about us! So if you like to travel to cool, fun places and are looking for like-minded, new friends to travel with, then this is the group for you!

Our local MeetUps will be around various parts of SoCal; from the coast to the desert, from LA to San Diego. Some of our MeetUps will be happy hours, lunches or brunches. We'll also be offering up some hikes and other cool destinations like wineries & breweries... and be on the look out for some super fun road-trips for overnight / weekend getaways.

Our meet-ups are a fantastic way to get to know each other and the oh so many areas in and around Southern California. Always new places to check out and many beautiful locales to explore… so might as well check them out with new friends!

We just ask the following of our members please:
- clear membership profile pictures
- answer the short profile questionnaire
- be courteous and respectful to our fellow members and hosts

*This MeetUp is a sister MeetUp to our East Coast founding members in Washington, DC & Baltimore! :-)

Puglia, Italy! Get Ready for an Adriatic Coast Adventure!

Italy's Adriatic Coast is calling! Let's take a road trip along the Puglia Coast and indulge in its amazing natural beauty & exquisite cuisine! This is where the foods are as varied, rich & magnificent as the landscapes! Grab your camera and possibly your favorite elastic waist pants and join us on this 400+ mile road trip on Italy’s South Eastern Coast! We'll be soaking up the sun on the Puglia Coast with stops in Peschici, Vieste, Polignano a Mare, Monopoli, Trani, Bari, Otranto, and Lecce (to name a few). Think of traveling between the spur and boot heel of Italy. We consider this region Italy’s best-kept secret, but it's been the favorite summer retreat of Italians for decades! Super scenic Puglia (Apulia) is nestled in the southeast corner of Italy between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. It's a long, thin region that starts at the Gargano Promontory, the spur of the boot and continues to the Salento Peninsula, the toe of the boot. Much of the Puglia region is coastline and is well-known for its beautiful beaches, fresh seafood, and charming coastal towns. Everything the Italy fan craves is here in abundance: ancient towns with history galore; extravagant churches dreamt up by Europe's finest architects; seas of olives; olive-green seas; and mouthwatering food that rivals anywhere in Italy. Travelers worn down by the crowds of Campania and Tuscany can find still tranqulity in the splendor of Lecce, ‘Florence of the South’, or one of many lesser (but no less beautiful) Pugliese towns. If you're into incredible scenery and if gastronomy is your passion… this is the perfect trip for you! Get ready for a farm-to-table experience in L’Aquila; tapas in a medieval building in the impressive Appenine Mountains; fresh fish at a rustic restaurant teetering over the dramatic edge of the Adriatic; an olive farm tour including sampling the Italian Gold; and wine tasting in Scorrano at the Guarini winery dating back to the 1700’s. And this list doesn't even include the local cuisine and sites we’ll experience along the route in the beautiful, charming seaside towns of Puglia! And don’t worry, we’ll enjoy relaxation & adventure daily including: a guided trek in Abruzzo, an exciting boat tour of the Grottos off of Vieste, a biking tour through the peaceful countryside of Alberobello, and a four-day stay in an amazing villa with ocean views and a private chef! Adventurers Activate! We're Going to Zimbabwe! (Winner of Best in Travel 2019!)

Zimbabwe is quietly becoming a must-visit travel destination. It's an under-the-radar, spectacular place that the BBC’s former Africa correspondent Michael Buerk called “the most beautiful country on the continent.” The country made Lonely Planet’s recently released list of Best Travel Destinations for 2019, naming Zimbabwe one of the top countries (#3) to visit this year. Zimbabwe, or just Zim as the locals say, is poised to take off in the coming years. There’s really no reason not to go and every reason to hurry before the rest of the world catches on! Zimbabwe is on travelers' radar as it offers the ideal combination of everything needed for an unforgettable safari destination with a wealth of wildlife yet a scarcity of visitors, along with exceptional lodges, guides and hospitality and overall striking natural beauty. And with the dramatic shift in its political environment last year, everyone in the know knows it’s time to go! As Lonely Planet noted, Zimbabwe has always been a country that travelers have raved about – it’s one of Africa’s safest destinations, blessed with ultra-friendly locals, teems with Big Five wildlife in exceptional protected national parks, and boasts World Heritage-listed archaeological ruins, forested mountains, and of course, the incredible freak of nature that is Victoria Falls - one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World! Considered an exclusive place to travel, the country is a premier safari destination in the continent. If you haven’t experienced the incredible Zim safari scene, this is your opportunity. It’s an experience that will stay with you for life! This is a high-end, thoughtfully designed small group safari trip that uses locally-owned 4 star luxury camps and provides a non-touristy, intimate and sustainable experience. Highlights of the trip include exploring some of the country’s most impressive natural beauty: mighty iconic rivers like the Zambezi with the planet’s most famous waterfall, which is one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World (Victoria Falls); a magnificent treasure trove of wildlife on game-filled plains in the largest national park in the country (Hwange); and incredible granite boulder fields strewn about & balancing on top of each other throughout the hills that are also adorned with sacred, ancient San rock art (Matobo Hills).
