This is a Level 1 paddle. From the launch at Kettle Cove we have several options depending on conditions and participants' interests. We can paddle around Richmond Island if conditions are mild or stay in the protected confines of Seal Cove. We'll certainly stop for a snack and a walk on Richmond Island which has several miles of scenic walking trails around it's perimeter. The pace will be appropriate for Beginning Level paddlers. The distance and time will depend on participants and conditions and how much time we spend on Richmond but we'll probably be out approximately 4 hours and cover 5-7 miles.
We'll be in several very protected areas which are excellent for practicing wet exits, rescues and rolls, although the water will still be chilly. Longer trips to Higgins Beach or to the Lobster Shack at Dyer Point are also possible.
The nearby Lobster Shack is a beautiful place for lunch after the paddle.
Kettle Cove is a popular destination for both locals and tourists and has limited parking. Be sure to arrive early to get a parking spot. We plan be on the water by 9:30.
