Play For Seniors

As part of The National Nursing Home Week, May. (11th-17th) we will play for the seniors in residence. The theme of the week long event is the "Sprit of Hawaii". This should be pretty informal as we will use the projector and host a sing a long.

It was surprising to me how many of the residents sang along. Good feeling in the room.

So, do I have to take my coconut brazier and grass skirt to the dry cleaners before the gig, our can I simply dress in my normal attire?

Thanks for the support June. Obviously Dan and mike don't realize how fabulous wearing a grass skirt can make you feel.

The two teaching videos are posted on my Youtube page! Only members of the group will be able to watch them and practice. I will take them down on Friday, May 16.

I'm so sorry guys, but I have decided that as much as I would love to be there, I also don't want to miss out on my school's benefit auction, especially because I'm hoping to donate an item or two and support the school. However, first thing tomorrow morning, I'm planning to make a Youtube video of me strumming and singing "Pearly Shells" and "Tiny Bubbles" for you to listen to and practice with using your chord charts. Only members of the group will be able to access the video up until May 16. Hope that will help! I'll be there May 2! Thank you all so much for everything you do! You rock!

Can you send me names of the Hawaiin songs you are willing to teach? If you do, I will sort through them, pick a few and let you know which ones to prepare. I think songs from 1930s through 50s would be best suited for the seniors. What do you think?

My Little Grass Shack (G), Hukilau (F), Pearly Shells (G), Tiny Bubbles (F). That's probably more than enough. I just realized that we only have 2 practices before the performance! Oy!

I think some of the songs from Great Bay would work for this event as well. Bye bye love, Folsom Prison, When I'm 64 to name a few.

I haven't decided whether I can go or not because this is also the same night as the annual benefit auction at the school I teach at, which I was also hoping to go to so I can support the school and the community. I am so torn! However, I know lots of Hawaiian songs and was wondering if I could teach them at the upcoming practice sessions, since the bulk of our CD work will be done in small groups. Please let me know what you think. If it helps, I can post chord charts.
