UPDATE: The good news is the temperature is supposed to be in the 70's - HALLELUIAH! The not so good news is there is a 40% chance of scattered t-storms throughout the day. T-storms tend to make hiking a bit soggy - come prepared!

Keep an eye to the sky & on the meetup site. If it's raining in the a.m. will postpone to another day.

Schuber - Ridge Trail Loop. This is a really nice hike!

Let’s hike the Ramapo Valley County Reservation conveniently located on Ramapo Valley Road (Route 202) Mahwah, NJ. We’ll meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Reservation parking lot. If you’re interested in carpooling, the meet time is 8:45 a.m. at the Chicago Uno parking lot in the Woodbury Centre shopping plaza conveniently located off Route 32 @ 20 Centre Drive, Central Valley, NY. Park in the side parking lot that faces Friday’s. Otherwise, we’ll see you at the Ramapo Reservation. Please add “Carpool” in your comments.

The Journey: This 4.5 mile hike is rated “moderate” by the NYNJ Trail Conference.

The trip begins on the Schuber Trail (orange blazes) and will continue up the mountain to the MacMillian Reservoir. We’ll stay on the Schuber Trail around the reservoir to the Ridge Trail (blue blazes). The Ridge Trail begins the “loop” back to the parking lot. There is a breathtaking overlook point off the blue trail that we’ll stop at to check out the view!

There are many ups and downs and then some more ups to this hike – it’s not strenuous for those with hiking experience. The trails consist of some pavement, gravel, dirt, rocks, streams etc. No rock scrambles on this trip. Running water flows next to many of the trails. If there has been some recent precipitation, the trails will be wet and muddy. There are a few shallow streams we’ll cross by stepping rock-to-rock-to-rock. This is a test of your agility skills!

The Ramapo Reservation is a very dog-friendly place, so four-legged friends are definitely welcome here – but park rules state they must be leashed!

Hiking boots with ankle support should be worn on this trip! Crappy, inclement weather will postpone this hike. Keep an eye to the sky and on the website for updates.

Bring lunch and plenty of water. Please email your cell # if I don’t already have it. After the hike....late lunch/early dinner @ The Mason Jar, Mahwah, NJ.

$1 Meetup fee, please
