    Class What?

It is important that we all understand the rating system that organizers use on their hikes. For my hikes I generally use something close to the Yosemite Decimal System. I have seen many different versions of this system, and many are adamant that their version is the right version and etc.. The best description I have seen of the five classes that seems to encompass the most general idea may be found at Climber.org under ‘Five Classes of Climbing Difficulty’ ( click here ).

New snow down to Walkers Pass. Road is open, but tomorrow would be a snow slog throuh all the usual north side sections of the PCT. Jenkins would be an agressive day with snow shoes. Even Morris would be work in some places without snow shoes. Glad for the late storm though - we needed it on the east side. ESS

The eastern peaks are hard to forecast for, I've been up on the PCT during "winter storm warnings" where the west side was being buried and I was on a dusting. It all depends on if any precip bands set up east to west (not west to east) on the backside of the low. However, we are getting some light rain today in ridgecrest, so I think a couple inches is likely. It will melt fast in the sun tomorrow though. If we have sun.

Nathan, do you have a weather link you could post for Mt Jenkins? I think you have a way to get the forecast for a specific latitude and longitude.

Hi Nathan, what is the address of the Chevron Station we are to meet at? I am driving in from Fresno. I didn't see any with the address you gave Morgan when I looked up Chevron stations. I hiked with David and Tom to Delilah lookout Sunday. Fun guys! I look forward to hiking with your group.

Janice let me know if you want to carpool down to Bako but for sure we can car pool from Bakersfield to Isabella. I think you and I could meet at the Carl's Junior near Hwy 99 of Rosedale Hiway in Bako.

Based on history, I doubt any of these peaks will get much more than a couple inches, and it will melt very quickly with sun during the day. It may be a colder storm, but its not real wet, and these are eastern peaks.

Nathan...60 percent chance of rain on Thursday and 70 percent on Friday. I suspect there might be quite a bit of snow accumulating on the peaks we are supposed to hike to...and...if so, do you still plan on doing this hike?

I will be coming Fresno. Which is the best way to get there. Is it short to go the trailhead or the meetup spot at the Chevron?

    March 3, 2013

  • Bea C.

What time do we need to meet at the Chevron?

    March 3, 2013

  • Paul

I'd like to carpool from Chevron if possible.

    March 3, 2013

  • Ellen

Will probably meet up with you at Walker Pass as I may not do the entire hike.
    Looking forward to it.

Nathan, I will attend if I am in California that week. I may need to go to Utah, but I will cancel way ahead of time in that event. Looking forward to hitting those other peaks!
