Here is the “general plan” for our upcoming trip to Death Valley in January. I am planning on leaving for Death Valley on January 1st and head over to Beatty Nevada after our annual hike to Red Rock Canyon. I plan on staying at Motel 6 from January 1st and leave on Sunday January 5th. ….Regarding motel accommodations….There are five hotels in Beatty Nevada so I suggest you make reservations soon. For those who are camping out I suggest staying in the campgrounds near either Stovetop Wells or Furnace Creek since this is the area closest to where we will be rendezvous each day. Important note: Since I do not make motel accommodations or carpool arrangements for individual members of the group it is up to each person to make their own arrangements. If you would like to participate in a car pool or share hotel room with someone I suggest you make a request in the comment/discussion box or contact individual members via email who are attending this trip.
The “general” hiking and sightseeing agenda…Since it is difficult to access some of the exact details regarding road conditions due to severe flooding this past summer we may have to wing it a bit, so the following description is “tentative” and subject to change once we arrive. Important note: Most of the hikes in Death Valley are less than five miles and are considered easy to moderate but there may be a few hikes that are more strenuous for those who may want to explore some of the wilderness canyons.
Areas to hike and sightsee include: Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, Golden, Mosaic, Fall, Marble, and Titus Canyons, Badwater, Zabriskie Point, Artist Drive, Scotty’s Castle, Natural Bridge, Ubehebe Crater, Gower Gulch Loop, Dante’s Ridge, and Badwater. We obviously can’t see all of these areas but we will try and squeeze in as many as possible!
Final Note: I will provide more details regarding where we will meet each day in late December along with my cell number of myself and fellow members who are attending this hike. In meantime, if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions I am all ears and available. Since I don’t make hotel/camping arrangements I suggest you go online to find needed information. I look forward to meeting new faces and the trip…and…don’t forget to pray to the weather gods for decent weather between Jan 1-5.
