We will be leaving Bakersfield at 7:00 am to spend the day in Sequoia National Park. From Bakersfield we will car pool to Sequoia. There is an entrance fee to the park but we will hopefully be able to pair up people who already have passes. There are two easy hikes on this trip and almost anyone, except maybe small children can participate without much effort. The first hike is to Tokopah Falls which is a 3.8 round trip hike which climbs from 6750 to 7380 feet, an elevation gain of only 630 feet. Tokopah Falls is a beautiful 1200 foot cascading fall which is considered the most spectacular falls in the park.
After this hike, we will travel over to hike the Congress Trail which will take us through some beautiful Giant Sequoias. This is an out and back trail.
If time, we will then head over and climb Moro Rock which is always fun. The views from Moro Rock are fantastic although the smog will probably hinder visibility on Thursday due to the inversion layer in the valley.
A couple of quick notes. This is an all day hike, just to let everyone know...I plan on eating dinner in either Three Rivers or Visalia on the way back. Hope you can join us and look forward to hiking with you all on Thursday!...Bill
