What is Toastmasters? Toastmasters is a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. Toastmasters International has helped people from diverse backgrounds become more confident speakers, communicators, and leaders. Our meetings run from 6:30 - 7:45 each Tuesday at DK Maria's in the room to the left of the restaurant. Come early from 6-6:30 for networking and ordering food to eat during the meeting (food can be ordered during meeting as well if you arrive at 6:30). Everyone welcome to attend a meeting as a guest, no notice required. We meet in the side room to the left of the main dining room. Please join us! What to Expect during a Toastmasters Meeting - 6:00-6:30 people arrive, order food, mingle and network - 6:30 meeting gets started and is kicked off by either the Sergeant of Arms or Toastmaster of the day. - 6:35 Toastmaster introduces the people that have roles in the meeting such as Grammarian, Timer, General evaluators and speech evaluators, each provide a brief overview of their role. Grammarian provides the word of the day. - 6:40 - 7:00 Speakers are introduced and give their speeches - 7:00 Table Topics portion of meeting - people without roles given opportunity for impromptu 1-2 minute speeches 7:15 - General Evaluator and evaluation portion of meeting Close - Toasmaster closes the meeting, asks for roles to be filled for following week's meeting, provides general club announcements. Cost to join is initially $13/month for the first 6 months and $8.50/month thereafter. You can attend up to 3 times as a guest before deciding to join. Why join a Toastmasters Club? - Learn to speak in front of groups small and large and gain new leadership skills confidently in a safe and supportive environment where everyone is following the same path and is there to help you grow! - Become more confident not only as a speaker but also in your everyday interactions and conversations with others. - Become a leader by learning leadership skills as you take on roles within your club. - Add Toastmasters to your resume (hint, employers like this because it shows that you have skills that they want in their employees!) - Learn to present information in a clear and concise manner - Practice impromptu speaking (speaking on the fly with no preparation) during the Table Topics portion of the meeting. Super helpful for preparing you for those times when you are put on the spot by your boss or co-worker - Be more confident in the way you carry yourself overall. It really does make a difference! Check out the Toastmaster's website for more information about the Toastmasters speaking and leadership tracks.
