What we're about
First and foremost, I am a mom wanting to raise bilingual children. Along the way, I met some wonderful parents that also wanted to teach their child Spanish but did not have the language proficiency to do so. So I set out to change that! I started with Spanish classes at my home and then that developed into our MamaLingua app that parents can use with their child during daily routines (eating, sleeping, bathing, etc). But the heart of all this, is the community; finding friends like us that want to embark on the same mission. Speaking only in Spanish to my child was isolating at first until I found other mothers wanting to do the same thing. Together we practiced and created a bilingual environment for our children so that they too could value its importance. I want to create that community here in Austin by connecting parents with similar goals and providing an environment to talk about the challenges, recommend some tools, hear some inspirational stories, enjoy some Spanish book reading, and maybe a song or two in Spanish. I look forward to meeting all of you.
Community along with partners in Austin is crucial to our success in raising bilingual children. I created this group so individuals, schools, programs, resources, could connect with a group of amazing families that are on a mission to practice their Spanish, learn Spanish, and/or create a bilingual environment.
Thank you to Mi Casa Es Tu Casa and Think Bilingual for helping us launch our first event and supporting our language learning journey.
