Second Spark Barcelona meeting (Urbiotica)

This second meeting will feature David Rodriguez (CTO at Urbiotica) speaking about Spark on Lambda architecture (talk in Spanish/Catalan).

Our main aim as group is to get together with people interested in this technology, hear about your related projects and have a nice time all together.

This is our agenda for this second meet up:

Thursday 10th July, 19:00 hours: Spark on Lambda architecture talk.

Thursday 10th July, 19:45 hours: Discussion.

We’re looking forward to meet you all! Don’t be shy and come by!

Title: Spark on Lambda architecture talk

Abstract: Begin with an introduction to the Lambda architecture and continue with the advantatges of using Spark for batch and speed layer. Next, a use case: "Architecting Urbiotica traffic sensor solution" focus on use of Spark Streaming. Finishing with some comments on the use of Akka actors on Spark.

We'll publish the slides soon! In the meantime, you can check out this talk (http://channel9.msdn.com/Shows/Going+Deep/Hewitt-Meijer-and-Szyperski-The-Actor-Model-everything-you-wanted-to-know-but-were-afraid-to-ask) on the actor model by Carl Hewitt (the creator of this computation model back in the 70s) and other guys like Erik Meijer, a really known guy in FP world, who is really pushing the reactive manifesto (http://www.reactivemanifesto.org) you heard of yesterday as well.

Very interesting. We were introduced how Urbiotica satisfied its technological needs through the Lambda Architecture and how it can be improved using Spark as the only system core.

The Akka's overview and the lambda system architecture and the alternative one were very interesting in order to understand where spark fits in. And knowing that Spark has been given more founding again it's a good sign!

Quite interesting. Also, good to know what Urbiotica is doing.

For the sake of curiosity, I always thought that the name of the Erlang language came from the probability distribution having the same name heavily used to calculate capacity of switched telephone systems (and its discoverer). It is fun that also matches with Ericsson Language as David stated.
On another side of things, among my bookmarks I found a paper which introduces the Erlang (and Akka) supervised architecture David mentioned as well: http://www.erlang.org/download/armstrong_thesis_2003.pdf .

It looks like the address showed on the map is wrong. Can you confirm the address where this event is taking place, please?
