What we're about

Do you drift off to sleep thinking of spice blends? Are you unable to leave a spice store under half an hour? Do you roast and grind your own blends? Do you like to stare at the many shades of various curry powders? Then this meetup is for you!

We meet once a month or so to sample each other’s dishes showcasing a particular spice, herb or region we collectively pick when we meet. We have been lucky to have Savory Spice host us quite a few times. Members can also host if they have enough room to accomodate about 20 people.

Our other events consist in sampling various BYOBs around the city. You also have the option to pick a venue and organize one of these dinners if you'd like to share a place you love.

Add your spicy creative minds to the mix!

JUL 20 Ravinia-BYOW: Leonard Bernstein's MASS by the CSO. $15 adm. Free Fun!

Jim is a member of our group and an organizer in another meetup and asked whether we might be interested in this event. He will be organizing this event [Sonia]. Note: This is a meetup of of 4 different groups (art, wine, spice & dog lovers!) As such I will update total attendee's as we get closer: As of[masked] there are approx. 30-ish RSVP's. Dear Fellow Spicer's: Is wine a spice? It certainly adds "spice to life". So...YEAH! Many who attend Spiced Up events know I run a few groups myself; a wine-tasting group, a art gallery/art museum group and a dog walking group (woof). Once or twice a year I like to host a event and invite ALL three groups. Think of it a cross breeding! It good for the herd. And its time to "Spice Up" the herd! (heehee). The wine tasting group will be hosting a Ravinia BYOW evening-picnic this summer at Ravinia. It is totally casual and totally fun! It is BYOWine, BYOFood and BYOLawnChairs! We sit in the rear, in a wine circle, share wines and laff & lie! And, as I like to say its also "bring a friend or... ten!". House-keeping Info: 1. This CSO+ open-air concert starts at 8:00 pm. I suggest you try to be there by 7:00 pm. I will target to be there by 6:30 pm. I will be wearing a stoopid BLAZE ORANGE BASEBALL HAT and sitting toward the rear. Look for the Fat Lady's Butt! [You will know her when you see her. She's world famous]. https://www.meetup.com/Highland-Park-Wine-Group/photos/29105367/ 2. This event could easily sell-out. I suggest you get your tickets earlier than later. (They go on sale May 7th-ish). BE SURE TO BUY LAWN TICKETS - TEN BUCKS! It's a steal: Leonard Bernstein, the CSO and Summer! 3. As mentioned, I have also invited peeps from my other groups. It should be quite a eclectic mix of peeps. No gang flashing please! I will be watching. 4. Public Transportation peeps: The Metra Train stop for Ravinia IS the front gate. Talk about clout! 5. Wine: Keep your BYOW wine under $20. No showing off. So, without further ado: Lets add some some music and wine to summer. The feds are getting suspicious! Let's go to MASS! It'll freak 'em out. Leonard Bernstein's MASS is a modern MASS classic. And we get to enjoy the CSO's rendition for $15 bucks! Sitting on the lawn, drinking BYOW wine while renewing old friendships and making new ones. From Ravinia: "By popular demand, Ravinia’s production of Leonard Bernstein’s MASS, named one of the best concerts of 2018 by the Chicago Tribune, will be given an encore performance featuring conductor Marin Alsop and baritone Paulo Szot, who once again heads up the hundreds of artists onstage, from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to the Highland Park High School Marching Band. Announcing the Chicago-area professional premiere of the work last summer, Ravinia president and CEO Welz Kauffman called Mass “a giant, exhilarating work that was misunderstood in its day, and audiences need to hear it”—the Tribune ’s Howard Reich agreed in his review, proclaiming it “simply quintessential, stylistically unbound, anything-goes Bernstein, presented on the grandest scale possible.” Don’t let the title fool you; this exciting musical theater piece is more like Hair than church!" From the Chicago Tribune: "Simply quintessential, stylistically unbound, anything—goes Bernstein, presented on the grandest scale possible."—Howard Reich, Chicago Tribune The Plan: Gates Open: 5:00pm Arrival Time?: <7:00 pm (I will be there @6:30 ish) Concert Begins: 8:00 pm Ravinia/Tickets Link.
