What we're about

Workshops where spiritually curious people can learn and act together.

How do you tap into the wisdom that guides, grounds, & inspires you?

We are a group of folks who gather to do that. In the fierce urgency of this time, Spirit Workshops offer a space for spiritually curious folks to share creative action, conversation, and community. The community shapes the themes and skills we explore. Folks of many beliefs attend: we believe that wisdom may be found by many names and paths. You are welcome to drop in for a session or for a series -- to support you in really creating a habit of life.

Past sessions practiced writing for intention, observed the Solstice (its astronomy & spirituality), reflected on Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows, hosted a story concert, and walked through Seattle's neighborhoods guided by those with special perspectives on their social & justice history. We are in relationship with the Love Wins Love project, art projects that connect housed & unhoused people.

In 2019, we plan to meet at least twice a month, sometimes more.

•On the first Sunday of the month, we host a vigil, Standing for the Common Good on 45th Street & 15th Avenue NE in Seattle's University District. That's 12pm - 1pm. Bring a sign or we'll provide some.

• On the third Sunday of the month, we workshop an activity that prompts meaningful reflection, 2pm-4pm.

Spirit Workshops are an independent program supported by University Congregational UCC, a progressive Christian church.

It should go without saying, but let's make it perfectly clear: we fully embrace folks who are LGBTQ. We are committed to undoing our white privilege. We explore the practice of non-violence as taught by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Junior. We embrace the value of varied beliefs, cultivating space where a diverse ecosystem of views flourish together. All are welcome.

Monthly Vigil: Standing for the Common Good

Needs a location

We just can't stop Standing for Good! For the second year, we will gather every month on the first Sunday. Join us! From noon to 1pm we stand on a local corner to celebrate and cultivate the common good in the public space. Bring a sign of what you are standing for, or we’ll have some on hand. Stop by for 10 minutes or an hour. Some folks choose to greet passersby and wave at cars. Some stand in meditation. We all create a holy place of public caring together. Jointly offered by Spirit Workshops & University Congregational United Church of Christ (a progressive church) . Folks of all beliefs (or none) are welcome.

Writing, Reflection, & Really Good Beverages: the March Edition

Chocolati Cafe Wallingford

Gather at a Wallingford coffee spot that also serves wine, beer, & killer hot chocolate. We’ll get into a creative headspace, respond to a writing prompt that invites reflection & spirit, then partake in conversation. Your input will help shape future sessions. March's session will focus on KINDNESS, building off of our current exploration of that topic. What is kindness that's strong & resilient & savvy? What will flow from your imagination & pen about that? The delightful Hannah Merrill, local playwright and creative explorer, will lead. This is a 3 month experiment on the first Sundays of Feb - April, 2pm-4pm. You're welcome to drop in for one session, or to take the entire experimental journey.

Community Celebration at Camp Second Chance

Camp Second Chance

Camp Second Chance residents will open their home to the larger community to share food, art and conversation on March 17. Tour their tiny house factory. Hear how they organize their community & support their neighborhood. Celebrate the ways these people enduring homelessness provide support and stability for each other as they seek permanent housing. Several camp residents are members of Spirit Workshops, so we are excited to support this celebration. Come and join us! This encampment is sanctioned by the City of Seattle. They currently need to be re-approved to stay at this location. This open house is a chance for the rest of us to experience what makes this community such an amazing success. Please bring cookies and snacks to share or books to donate to the camp's little library...or just come as you are. Everyone is welcome. If you need a ride from the University District let us know: carpools will be forming.
