We will be climbing the Snake Dike Route on the Half Dome. This is on the opposite side of the cables that ascend the Half Dome. The route is a 5.7 with a number of pitches that are 5.4. The entire route is 8 pitches long, but there is a 3-4 hour hike and we will need to leave Happy Isles Trail Center before 4 am on Friday morning. We are considering camping near the base of the climb.
This climb is noted for extended runouts. Most of the pitches have protection one per pitch, in other words, you might have to go 70 feet before you get to pro. However, people report the actual climbing to not be too difficult.
We are going to organize this trip differently. People who would like to join us must form a group of 2-3 people who are able to independently climb the route. You need to have at least one person capable of lead climbing and the ability and knowledge of how to retreat off the climb if need be.
At this time, there is one team that will be doing the trip. David Engel, Don Rasmussen and Miriem Boudj. We welcome others to join us, but please be self sufficient. This route requires a small rack, however, you will need a number of slings for protection and other tie offs.
