Apache Sqoop Introduction, Development Update and Vision
The developers for Apache Sqoop, a top level apache project, will host an open meetup to share an overview; current status for development; and vision. Apache Sqoop is a tool designed for efficiently transferring bulk data between Apache Hadoop and structured data stores such as relational databases. The committee (some are traveling from Europe) is looking forward to meeting you and greatly values your participation. Presenters include Boglárka Egyed, Ferenc Szabó and Szabolcs Vasas. The event is scheduled a day before the Strata Data Conference in San Jose to accommodate folks traveling from outside the bay area. Lunch will be served at noon by our event sponsor, Progress DataDirect who serves on the JDBC Expert Group. • Important to know If you have not already taken the Apache Sqoop survey, please do so and the feedback will help advance the project and be part of the discussion at the meetup: https://progress.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8BOsTjqhM2JrMUt

What we're about

Public Group

This is a meetup group for users and contributors to Apache Sqoop (http://incubator.apache.org/sqoop/) (incubating).

Sqoop is a system designed for efficiently transferring bulk data between Apache Hadoop (http://hadoop.apache.org/) and structured datastores such as relational databases. You can use Sqoop to import data from external structured datastores into Hadoop Distributed File System or related systems like Hive (http://hive.apache.org/) and HBase (http://hbase.apache.org/). Conversely, Sqoop can be used to extract data from Hadoop and export it to external structured datastores such as relational databases and enterprise data warehouses.

We'll be meeting up regularly in SF / Palo Alto area (and occasionally at conferences)!
