This walk is especially for our new members who haven't been able to get into one of our Saturday walks because they have filled up so quickly. (If you have already been on one of our Saturday walks, please wait until July 19 before you sign up for this walk to give new walkers a chance.)
The section of Wydown Avenue between Hanley and Big Bend is a classic St. Louis walk... bordered on both sides by interesting neighborhoods, with a variety of mansion styles to the north and lots of hidden gems on the south to explore. We will meet at Wydown Park, a pocket park about 100 yards east of the Starbucks at the corner of Wydown and Hanley at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 2. (From the Starbucks, stay on the north side of Wydown and walk about 100 yards east to the park.) This park is also known as Acorn Park because of its acorn sculpture. Street parking on Wydown is usually available.
This statue is at the corner of Wydown and Hanley (This is "Man on Horse" by Botero. He likes the sensuality and satire of this form. His statues are all over the world, including Jerusalem and the Vatican museum.)
This walk is free to new members. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Check for changes before you come, especially if the forecast is for excessively hot weather.
The total distance will be about 3 to 4 miles. Remember to bring water and wear comfortable shoes.
