Red, White & Blue Club Ride

  • Jul 6, 2013 · 8:30 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

WHEN: Club rides take place on alternating Saturdays and Sundays MOST weekends throughout the riding season, and will leave from a convenient Longmont location.

ROUTE: This week we will be heading East and North into Weld and Larimer Counties, and riding through the town of Johnstown. The route is 52 miles and classed as "moderate", don't let the plains fool you, there are rolling hills out there!. The Route map can be viewed HERE.

WHAT: Club rides will have 2 or 3 groups. We ride as a close group, two abreast only when it is safe to do so. The Club rides are "NO DROP", we will re-group at the top of hills, and at any turns where necessary.

RED GROUP: Average Speed of about 16 to 18 mph (18-20 on the flats, slower on hills)

WHITE GROUP: Average Speed of about 15 to 17 mph (faster on the flats, slower on hills)

BLUE GROUP: Average Speed of about 13 to 15 mph (faster on the flats, slower on hills)

WHO: This is a road bike ride for people who have experience riding on the road with traffic. Please only sign up if you are confident you can complete the above described ride/route (distance, pace etc).

RIDE NOTES: Rides will roll out no more than 5 minutes after the advertised start time, please arrive early and be ready to roll.

- Come prepared for mechanical breakdowns (bring spare tube, patch kit, tire levers, multi-tool).

- Be sure to bring enough water for the length of the ride, especially with warmer weather ahead of us. As a general rule, one bottle of water is good for 1 hour of riding (8oz per 20 mins of ride time).

DISCLAIMER: We try to ensure the safest cycling experience on all of our rides, but cycling does come with some risk. Our ride leaders are all volunteers, not professional guides. Each member accepts responsibility for their own conduct and safety (including the safety of your bicycle and any other equipment) during club rides. You take part in club rides entirely at your own risk.

Hope you had a great ride. Even if you did ride without me. AGAIN. Sorrow, sadness, depression. Do you get the idea I miss being on my bicycle?

Seriously I am glad everyone is getting out and riding. Looking forward to when I can join you again.

It was a horrible ride. Uphill all the way into a 20 MPH headwind with hail and sleet when it wasn't 110 degrees.

Sounds like a fun ride. Of course almost any ride seems like fun right now.

Thanks Pete for keeping us "connected" in the middle and for all of the great pictures too! Also appreciate the help from Rick and David and everyone who helped keep an eye out for our fellow riders. These rides don't happen without the help from so many of you - THANK YOU! Hope to see you next week for our ride to Jamestown!

Awesome ride today, and what a fantastic group of good looking riders - of course the new jerseys have nothing to do with it hehe. Thanks everyone for coming out and riding, see you next time. Cheers!.

Weather is looking perfect for tomorrows ride, low 70's to low 80's, and no wind (which is a good thing when cycling East of I-25. Wear your SVCG jerseys, or if you prefer wear some red, white & blue :). See you all tomorrow, Cheers!.

Heard the jerseys look great! Can't wait to see them! I don't have any red or blue riding gear, but I do have purple, which is red and blue mixed together! That counts, right? ;)

Anyone riding the Blue Group pace of 13 to 15 mph? There are a lot of fast riders on this list!

Ha - be prepared to say a quick "Hi" and "Bye" to the "REDS" this morning - they'll be flying!

Nice route, think you'll all enjoy it! Little longer so be sure to bring fuel/food, NO SHADE, so wear sunscreen. At our turn west in Johnstown (about 22 miles out) there is a McDonald's - good place for a QUICK water recycling. Rolling ride with no major hills. See you at the Francis Street Ziggi's, Saturday, July 6 - departing at 8:30 AM.

    June 30, 2013

    • Nick M.

What you mean they didn't they give you a "motorized" wheelchair with a turbo :).

  • Doug M.

Can we rename the thee groups "Red group", "white group", and "blue group" for this ride?

    June 27, 2013

    • Nick M.

I like that, good idea :)
