This will be a very special Toastmasters meeting with two award-winning journalists giving a 45-minute talk on ”How political speech has changed in recent years”.
The speakers are:
- Olli Seuri, journalist at YLE (the National Broadcasting Company). Journalist of the Year in Finland 2018.
- Jarno Hartikainen, journalist at Helsingin Sanomat. Speaker at the Musta Laatikko talk event at the Finnish National Theater, performing to sold-out audiences. The production was awarded as the best journalistic act in Finland 2018.
Jarno and Olli, with two other authors, have just published a best-selling book "Totuuden jälkeen - miten media selviää algoritmien ja paskapuheen aikana" (”Post-truth – How the media can survive in the era of algorithms and bullshit”).
The first edition of the book was sold out in less than a month. It discusses political speech, especially in the US, Britain, Russia and Finland. You can learn more for example here (in Finnish): https://www.facebook.com/totuudenjalkeen/
In addition we’ll have a regular Table Topics session (improvised speeches).
As always, guests are warmly welcome!
Timing is very important at our meetings and for that reason we start our meetings exactly at 18:00 hours. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the meeting begins. The meeting ends by 20:15.
Limited seats, sign up early.
