Tank Man Stairhike-Heros in June

June 5, 2014 marks the 25th Anniversary of the day Tank Man became a hero and a symbol of freedom worldwide!

June 5, 1989 Tiananmen Square. After the Chinese government killed up to thousands of it's own citizens who were fighting for democracy, a common man became known world wide, when he stepped in front of moving tanks and forced them to stop!  Today, the repressive Chinese government blocks any information about Tank Man and the Tiananmen Square protests from being accessed on the internet.

Time Magazine would list The Unknown Rebel of the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, now more commonly known as Tank Man, as one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.

Find out more about Tank Man.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNtA8RZ1FAA

Tank Man symbolizes, not only great courage, but the beginning of the end of those commie bastards from the Soviet Union! Six months later, we would see the fall of the Berlin Wall!  Then shortly after, the end of those commie bastards!

So please join your fellow stairclimbers as we honor Tank Man by climbing 11 staircases in Silver Lake.  11 because Tank Man happened on June 5th.

Meeting Time:

Please arrive at Lamill by 7pm for introductions

Walk will start promptly at 7:15 pm!!

Walk will finish within 1.5 hours.

Meeting Place:

LAMILL COFFEE BOUTIQUE

1636 Silver Lake Blvd

Los Angeles, CA 90026

(323)[masked]

There is free parking on West Silver Lake Blvd.- the signs say no parking after 11pm, so that doesn't apply, and other streets east and west of Silver Lake Blvd.

Paid street meter parking on Silver Lake Blvd.

Pace- Please be honest about your conditioning level!

We will walk at a fast, workout type pace.  This mean we do not stop and wait for people at the top of staircases and there will not be any rest stops.  We do not run.

You are responsible for keeping up with the pace of the group.

If you are unable to keep up with the group, you are on your own to get back to the starting point.

Print out the map of the route, in case you aren't able to keep up with the group.

Click for Route

About 2.7 miles.  This is a tough route with the staircases coming one right after the other, including the tough three part Swann.   10 of the staircases we will be going up!

Reminders:

If you're an obnoxious loudmouth or a resident genius-somebody who thinks they know it all and has to tell everybody, please do not sign up.  Just leave the group.  I'm really tired of dealing with these types of personalities on these walks.

No crashers- Please sign up for this event.  Please do not just show up.

RSVP limits are set, because too many people creates a bottleneck on the stairs.

Please keep your RSVP updated and current.  Repeated No Shows may lead to members being removed from the group.

If your plans have changed, please change your RSVP ASAP, so those on the waitlist can be given enough notice!

There usually are no restrooms along these walks. Restrooms are usually only available at the starting point of the walks.

Bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Always wear running/tennis shoes. Open toed shoes are not a good idea for these stairs walks.

Any questions or concerns please email me, David
